Steve “The Beast” Rippon beat the old course record by three strokes on Saturday. Unfortunately it wasn’t good enough to win the A Grade Monthly Medal.

STEVE RIPPON has brought his recent excellent form to the March Monthly Medal where he fired a 5 under par 62 to post a new course record. The old course record of 65 was jointly shared by Adrian Gehrmann and Jordan Widdicombe .

In his record round Steve managed 7 birdies and survived a shank which led to a double bogie 5 on the 11th hole. After his round Steve was most appreciative of the course conditions and the trueness of the putting surface and thanked his playing partners Eric Nyholm and Doug Perry for their support.

Despite this Steve did not win the A Grade monthly medal with his 62 nett, as Pete Munro shot a 71 off the stick for a nett 61 on the day to qualify for the Gold Medal Playoffs in November. The B Grade medal winner was Tom Zimmerman with nett 63 over fellow C Pennant players Anthony Smith and Boyd Sylvester who both fired nett 64’s.

The C Grade medalist was Paul Henderson who fired a day’s best of nett 60. John Corr fired an impressive nett 63 to win the inaugural D Grade medal and qualify for the November gold Medal Playoff as well. In the Ladies, Robyn Gregson scored a notable nett 69 to win the event.

New Handicap Grades

Don’t forget that the new grades are now in play for all Wednesday and Saturday competitions.  A Grade is for handicaps 12 or less; B Grade is for handicaps 13-19; C Grade is for handicaps 20-27; and D Grade is for handicaps 28-36. Also don’t forget that on Saturday there are ‘drive and pitch’ prizes for all 4 grades. A Grade is held on the 16th hole; B Grade on the 6th; C Grade on the 8th; and D Grade on the 2nd.

Good luck to all our Mens Pennant teams as they approach the Semi-finals.
