Action on and off the Course

Brothers-in-law share a moment.

Sharing a cart and the shade under a tree in today’s round, brothers-in-law Mal and Paul found themselves in a predicament on the 13th. Who hits first?

Forgetful Graeme?

After playing his round last week Graeme R put his score-card in the box, took his golf cart back to the collection area, got in his car and went home to enjoy his evening.

The next morning he went out to his car, opened his boot and was very surprised to see his clubs missing. Immediately thinking that there had been a break-in he was preparing to ring the police to report the burglary.

Meanwhile at the club, staff were surprised to find a set of clubs on a cart ready to be put away for the night.

Graeme was delighted the next day to get a phone call explaining that his clubs had been found!

Apparently his mates have been very thoughtful and keep reminding him to take his clubs home after golf!

Hyams Creek grabs another victim

The 2nd round of the championship was just about over when the group with Scott L, Gary B, Matt R, and Greg Q approached Hyams Creek for the last time. [editor’s note: it was on the 8th, a much nicer place for a swim undoubtedly].

Pretty slippery along the Creek it is, just ask Scott.

Seemed a bit cold for a swim.

Has anybody found a cart?

Judi was a bit concerned last Monday. You see, one cart was missing and it was time to put them away. Perhaps there had been an accident or somebody had missed a bridge and driven into a creek?

Search parties were being prepared to find out what had happened.

No worries, the cart was eventually found hiding in the carpark between two service trucks invisible from the shop area. Some wag had left it there after their round.

[Please bring them back after your round to the collection area, if only for Judi’s peace of mind].

Jamberoo Club Championships reach halfway point.

Two rounds have been completed and the excitement is building with overnight leaders surrendering their advantage while our new leaders have several competitors nipping at their heals!

Gross Results after round 2

In A grade, Ben McEvoy followed his opening round 75 with a 72, to take a 7 shot lead into the 3rd round over second placed Dave Garcia. Pete Munro and Ken Bradley are a further 12 shots adrift on 166.

In B Grade, Paul Henderson has taken the lead on 181. This is one shot ahead of Jake Willoughby and 3 ahead of Wayne Griffiths and 4 ahead of the pair Ron Chilby and Peter Francis. Several others are close as well. As you can see it will be a ding dong battle to win the B grade this year.

In C grade, Greg Quigg has taken the lead on 192 by 1 shot from John Lacey and a further shot from Vince Brynes. Ron Hewson, on 195, and Bob Wright, on 197, loom close. C grade is also set for a close contest.

Anything can happen over the last two rounds and it would not surprise to see further charges up the leaderboard. Remember, one below average round doesn’t end your chances in the championships.

Vince Brynes walks off the 18th.

Nett Results after round 2

As for the nett, you are reminded that you can’t win both the gross and the nett. This means that you are still in with a realistic chance of getting a prize, even if you think you are out of the gross.

In A grade, David Garcia, on 138, has a 3 shot lead over Ben McEvoy, on 141. Ken Bradley,144, Pete Munro on 146 and Tom Zimmermann on 147 are next best.

In B grade, Jake Willoughby leads on 144, followed by Wayne Griffiths on 146, Paul Henderson and Peter Francis on 147 and Brett Fielding on 149.

Greg Quigg leads C Grade nett on 140, followed by Scott Lacey on 145, Vince Brynes on 146 and Ron Hewson and Bob Wright on 149.

Expect some exciting golf next weekend with plenty of pressure on the players.

  • Maximum score on a hole is a 9.
  • 30cm preferred lies on fairways only. A free drop is available from any sandy or bare area on fairways only.
  • Mud encrusted balls may be lifted cleaned and exactly replaced in the general sections of the course.
  • On the 12th, if your tee shot ends in one of the sandy patches in the middle of the fairway you can take a free drop using ‘unusual course condition’ provisions.
  • Balls coming to rest in wheel and tyre tracks in the general area of the course (fairways and rough) may be lifted, cleaned and dropped without penalty.
  • The collapsed bank in front of the 16th green up to the safety fence is part of the penalty area.  If your ball enters that area, then it is in the penalty area and a compulsory penalty stroke must be taken following proper yellow penalty area drop provisions.

For safety reasons, you are not permitted to enter this cordoned off section at all even if your ball is visible. If you do so, then you are automatically disqualified. Please stop any person you see about to break this local rule.

  • Nearest the pin on the 7th hole and a drive and pitch for Women on the 11th.
  • The Oaks Automotive ‘eagles nest’ played on the third (Saturday only).
  • The Super Shot will be contested on the 13th hole.

Course Routing

Holes 5 and 9 are still out of play so will play the course using the routing used this week, holes 2* and 3* will replace the 5th and 9th holes respectively.

So the routing is 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 2*, 3*, and finishing on 18.

As the pars are the same then historical integrity of scores will be maintained. Being stroke rounds there will be no worries about the allocation of stableford points.

Record your score on 2* next to 5 on the scorecard and your score for 3* on the scorecard next to 9.

If you are playing a stableford round then use the stroke rating for the replaced holes, ie. use the stroke rating for 5 on 2* and the stroke rating for 9 on 3*. By doing this all strokes from handicaps are properly allocated and don’t require any score manipulation by the match committee after the round. If you are off 14, for instance, then you will receive all of your 14 strokes, and not less as you would if you used the alternative method that some have erroneously applied.

Enter your own scores into the computer on completion of your round and check that your card has both your own and the markers signatures. Marie will be there to help enter scores if you require it.

Best of luck to all.

Play well,

Dave Ransom

Captain

Course Routing

We are hopeful that the full course will be available for play on the weekend for rounds 1 and 2.

There is a chance that this may not be possible.

If we must we will play the same as the routing used this week, holes 2* and 3* will replace the 5th and 9th holes respectively. As the pars are the same then historical integrity of scores will be maintained. Being stroke rounds there will be no worries about the allocation of stableford points.

Social Club Booking Sunday and tee times

Unfortunately a social club (20 players) was booked on the first Sunday [7th August] of the championships in January before flood driven changes were forced upon us.

I have managed to get some more tee times from 8.20 am that can be utilised and might be helpful.

Please feel free to move your tee time forward to these spaces if you wish.

Mens Club Championship set to Commence

This Saturday and Sunday sees the playing of the first and second rounds of the 2022 Club Championships.

Defending champions are Ben McEvoy, Bruce Byers and Rod Hodkinson in their respective grades.

For those who maybe unaware we are playing the championships this year over two weekends utilising Saturday and Sunday. The booking sheets are available on OURGOLF with only a few early spots left available on the Sunday.

We wish all competitors the best of luck and hope all your putts drop into the hole.

Play well, but more importantly, enjoy the experience of playing in our main event.

Monthly Medals

With many medal days washed out earlier in the year and with stroke rounds being played we have an opportunity to catch up on the playing of those medals.

The August Monthly medal will be contested in conjunction in round 1, The July monthly medal in conjunction with round 2 and the June monthly medal in conjunction with round 3. Round 4, being the concluding round of the championships, will stand alone.
