Hams Day postponed.

Due to the persistent rain the Club Hams Day will be postponed to next Saturday.

The course is currently open for play this weekend but no motorised vehicle will be allowed.

  1. Surely it is possible for Jamberoo golf club to have nearest the pin and drive and pitch competition on, if over 50 members can come to support the club in terrible conditions.

  2. I was not consulted about that decision this morning and I agree completely with you.
Too often I am left out of the loop and it is the reason why a new Captain will be required in the very near future!
    Cheers Bruce.

    1. Sorry Dave to hear that news. I am sure that those responsible have the interests of ALL the members in mind when they undermine due process. Regards

  3. They did still have Supershot which is fully funded by members( and club takes a cut of this for admin costs I believe) and they still had Eagles nest ( which again is totally kindly sponsored by Oaks Automative)..yet lady’s comp had 3 starters and got 1 prize …if cutting back on NTP’s etc, why wasn’t it changed to a medley stableford?.
Yes Bruce, after seeing the financial statements for 2020-2021, the club is doing well, also thanks to great condition of course from green staff and directors and committee people doing a great, and sometimes thankless job….So one wonders if prizes and NTPS were increased, would we get even more starters from our over 500 members??
Good membership, but people joining and playing elsewhere..

I was under impression that due process and consultation should be followed, and consultation with Match Committee before any changes to comps are implemented..or IS IT a responsibility of starters…Maybe this has to be cleared up what the roles and responsibilities are of our VOLUNTEER STARTERS.

    1. Thanks Ron.
The starters are all aware that I should be consulted before any decision is made to change playing conditions or the prize allocations. It definitely isn’t the role of the starter and they all know their role. I talk regularly with starters and attend their meetings. This sadly did not happen on Saturday.
The amount of money we made last year will be allocated to course and clubhouse improvements and perhaps the purchase of those parcels of land on the course that we currently rent. It also has to cover the loss we made in the second lockdown.
Out of each competition fee a certain percentage is allocated to the prize pool and the ball comp, so any increase in novelty prizes like NTP or D&P will reduce the number of balls available in the ball comp.
I will consider raising these prizes back to the old number certainly if our comp sizes remain at the historically high numbers we are presently experiencing.
Of the 500+, only a few are playing at other courses and that is ok by me. Some play at other courses for other reasons like the grass being mowed during comp time on Wednesday at Jamberoo, or to experience vet golf at other venues. Some play because they can get their handicap lower at other courses. A lot of our new members are new to club golf and are beginning their Jamberoo experience by playing socially until they get a handicap.
I hope I have cleared up all of your concerns.

  4. Thanks Dave for clearing that up….As I mentioned our course is coming along in leaps and bounds thanks to hard working staff…And this does encourage new members, and this is great to see…I was just mentioning some concerns of some fellow disgruntled members, plus myself after the last fantastic 12 months.( even with COVID restrictions).
I do appreciate your detailed reply..
    Thank you.
