An Ace to Cherish

Congratulations to Ian Lewis who scored a hole-in-one on Monday in the Veterans Stableford.

Playing the newly re-opened ninth, Ian selected an 8 iron and was pleased to make good contact with the ball. Looking up he noticed it was heading towards the hole.

To his and his playing partners amazement the ball landed on the green took one bounce and disappeared into the hole.

A delighted Ian Lewis raises his ball to the adoring gallery.

For hitting the perfect shot Ian will receive a cap, a bottle of wine, and a commemorative certificate from GolfNSW, have his name enrolled on the hole-in-one page on our website, and, from the club, receive a special award of 6 balls and trophy in celebration of the ‘perfect shot’.

This was Ian’s 3rd hole in one, well played and congratulations.

Jamberoo Golf Club – Sponsor of the Month

Golf is the winner at Jamberoo.

A large field contested a Canadian Foursomes today and judging by comments much fun was had despite the poor golfing form of some partners!

The winners were Andrew Ball and David Garcia with nett 68.875, closely followed by Phil Hellmund and Bruce Byers on 69.25. Third place went to the wily pair of Ray Sheehan and Wayne Griffiths with 70.25.

In other news from the course, Ken Bradley mastered the ‘super shot’ on the 13th to win $88 with a shot to 196 cm and Luke Oborn has taken out the ‘Eagles Nest’ on the 3rd with a shot to 100cm. 12 balls from sponsor, Oaks Automotive, is his reward for swooping the prize with a great shot.

Liz Armstrong has also requested that a big thankyou go out to the person who returned her lost club today. Well done to one of our members!

The Champagne 9 competition continues to grow and results of participants are getting better exponentially! Looking forward to seeing you all next Saturday as well.

Next Saturday we return to a monthly medal round, the first in quite a while. Don’t forget to count your putts as well. [For those who don’t like stroke rounds, a medley stableford can be played as an alternative].

Conditions of Play from 23/6/2022

All 18 holes are open for play.

Play from the white tees.

Local Rules

  • 30cm preferred lies are available on fairways only. A free drop is available from any ‘brown’ or bare area on a fairway.
  • Play the ball as it lies elsewhere.
  • Mud encrusted balls may be lifted, cleaned and exactly replaced in the general sections of the course.
  • On the 12th if your tee shot ends in the sandy, muddy patch in the middle of the fairway you can take a free drop using unusual course condition provisions.
  • On the 16th you will notice that the collapsed bank has been blocked from entry. This area is to be treated as a no play zone. If your ball enters that area, then it is in the penalty area and a compulsory penalty drop must be taken from the drop zone which can be found near the palm trees, short and right of the lake.

You are not permitted to enter the cordoned off section at all for safety reasons even if your ball it is visible. If you do so, then you are automatically disqualified. Please stop any person you see about to break this local rule.

  • All bunkers are in play.
  • Motorised vehicles can be used, and you may drive a motorised vehicle over the bridge on 16.
  • Please be aware of any wet or muddy areas and keep well away from greens and tees.
  • The new work around the ninth green, involving the installation of root guard and returfing, has been completed.

The freshly returfed area is compulsory GUR and free relief maybe taken at the nearest point not closer to the hole from the reference point.

Extra Value to our Comps

  • The Oaks Automotive ‘eagles nest’ played on the third. Hit a shot within 1.20 metres and win 12 balls. Extends by 15 cm and 3 balls each Saturday until won.
  • The Super Shot will be contested on the 13th hole. Cost of entry – an additional $2. Win over $100 with one shot!
  • Just Bathroom Hole in One – have an ace on a given hole and win at least an extra $40.

Canadian Foursomes Rules

This Saturday we are playing a Canadian Foursomes and some may be unfamiliar with the format.

Canadian Foursomes is a two-person team event.

Both players play tee shots at every hole but its ‘alternate shot’ after that.

Player A and Player B both tee off on each hole. The partners compare the results of those two drives and select the best one. If Player B’s ball is selected, then Player A plays the next shot from there. They continue playing alternate shot from that point until the ball is holed.

The golfer whose drive is not used is the one who plays the second stroke.

So, to put it all together: Player A and Player B both hit drives. If Player B’s drive is best, the partners decide to continue with Player B’s ball. Player A picks up his own ball, and Player A plays the second stroke using Player B’s ball. Player B hits the third stroke, Player A the fourth, and so on, alternating shots, until the ball is holed.

Handicap allowance is 3/8 of the combined handicap which will be printed on the card.

A Call for Shop Volunteers

A unique opportunity to help your club – consider working a shift in the shop!

All training supplied and you don’t need a degree in Astrophysics (or even Musical Theatre) to manage. Out of pocket expenses are paid which won’t effect pension or government payments if that is a concern.

Contact the club if you are available to help.
