White Horse Cup (division 2) lost to Shoalhaven Heads 6-1 @ Port Kembla

The massacre at Port.

We had a somewhat disrupted preparation with several late withdrawals and player unavailability but on the first tee our team felt very confident with all of us receiving multiple shots against the mainly low handicapped Shoalhaven Heads team.

The Shoalhaven team had other plans and were in fine form, ready to play. The course was playing long and the greens were slow which really suited their big hitting team.

Our only bright light was the great play by captain Phil who managed a fine win.

Alan Jones, in good form in our Jamberoo competitions, met an exceptional player and lost 8/7.

Ken Holt, playing his first match for the club, was behind early, caught up, but eventually succumbed 4/3.

Phil Gosling played brilliantly to win 5/4 in a captain’s knock.

Gentleman Don Thompson had the pleasure of playing against a very good female player and in a very close match lost on the last hole after his ball spun back into the water.

Martin Fogarty had a bit of a toweling against his opponent losing 7/6.

Peter Young played well in a close match but lost in the end 3/2.
