Special Birthdays. Great to be playing.

Thanks to all the Ladies for the beautiful flowers and heartfelt cards. Sue Paul and Gloria Thompson enjoyed their birthdays. Born only hours apart 70 years ago. They are now carving up the course, with birthday gifts of new golf clubs from their families.

A 9 hole comp was played with 30 players. The course still has a way to go before we are playing 18 holes . Just great to catch up with everyone.

Birthday Girls.

News from the Course

Programme Change Saturday

This Saturday the Mens March Monthly Medal will be contested. Women will also play a stroke round.

A maximum score of 9 on any hole is mandated.

For those not keen on a stroke round, a medley stableford will be held.

Please don’t forget to count your putts.

Women’s Silver Pennants

Today at Kiama,  Jamberoo Silver played Worrigee Links and recorded a good win 3.5 to 1.5.

Shirley Dixon won  4/2

Jo Burke  won 6/4

Lyn Kuskey. Squared

Lisa Bell. Won 2/1

Gail Rutledge lost.

We found the course to be in good order considering the amount of rain we have had, the greens staff had been very busy getting the course ready for play.

Shirley had a good game coming home with a 4/2 win.

Jo really took it to her opponent winning 6/4

Lyn fought all the way to end up square.

Lisa took her opponent to the 17th to win 2/1

Gail put up a great fight to unfortunately go down.

A great game by all players. This puts Jamberoo in the lead of Silver B with 3 points.

Let’s keep it going.

Lyn Kuskey (captain)

GolfNSW Illawarra Pennants Report Sunday

The good news is that the White Horse Cup ‘Cowpats’ have progressed to the semi-finals next weekend at Port Kembla. With a bye today the wet did not affect the standings in their division. It was very close with 3 teams finishing on 6 points with 2 wins, 2 wash outs and 1 loss each but a superior for and against allowing them to progress.

With Wollongong Golf Club being closed after the heavy rain on Saturday two of our teams were denied the opportunity to compete and perhaps gain a semi-final birth.

Well played to the C Pennant and White Horse Cup Magpies who both finished just outside the cut-off.

Moss Vale Golf Club was open and the B Pennant team had a chance to qualify with a good win. Unfortunately in a heartbreaking story we lost 3 matches to 2 and finished 3rd in the division with only the top two progressing.

Captain Ryan Dorahy reports,

Brad Douglas lost on the 17th hole

Daniel Hamilton lost 4&3

Ryan lost 2&1

Lee Haywood won 2&1

Dylan McDonald won 4/3.

It was a good season and our first attempt at the B Pennant. A highlight was the defeat of the top Links Shell Cove team featuring a big win by Katie Dorahy.

All 8 players represented the club with passion and pride and will come back better next year.

2022 B Pennant

Luke Asquith, Daniel Hamilton, Brad Douglas, Lee Hayward, Ryan Dorahy, Dylan McDonald, Brendan Armstrong, and Katie Dorahy.

2022 WHC Magpies

Captain Phil Gosling was proud of the efforts of his team who always gave 100% and in the end were unlucky not to qualify for the semi-finals.

Ken Bradley, Brad Rimmer, Alan Jones, Rob Young, Ross Graham, Ken Holt, David Ransom, Jeff Draper, Phil Gosling, Don Thompson, Martin Fogarty, and Peter Young.

2022 C Pennant

Captain Larry Kent could not have asked for a more dedicated team who represented the club with pride.

Nick Goodger, Tom  Zimmermann, Leon Polestico, Wayne Griffiths, Matthew Ross, John Anthony, and captain Larry Kent.

2022 WHC Cowpats

Anthony Smith, Angus Pinkstone, Chris Leckey, Pat Paris, Bryan Nicoll, Col Booth, Peter Francis, Steve  Jackson, Kane Rowe, and Shane  Townsend.

The club wish them well next week on hopefully a dry course.

Latest Advice

Unfortunately the rain has fallen down in bucket loads last night and this morning flooding two of the nine fairways in play. Today’s competition is cancelled unfortunately. We are still hopeful about Monday.

As it stands today we have 9 hole members comp Saturday but no social play.

Course closed to all on Sunday.

9 hole Vets (and guests) on Monday and 9 hole Ladies (and guests) on Tuesday.

At this stage the currently unplayable 9 cannot be mown properly so remains out of play until further notice.

If we do not get any further significant rain over the weekend we may be able to get back to an 18 hole comp as usual on Wednesday but we will confirm that early next week.

No carts anytime yet.

Some Good News at Last

I have just been informed that a 9 hole course will be in play for Saturday’s competition.

It will follow this routing, starting on 5 then 6, 7, 11, 8, 9, 1, 3, and finishing on 4.

It will be a stableford, walking only and will cost $9 for the comp.

Just use your normal handicap on each hole.

It will be good just to be back on the course!
