Pennant teams ready for battle

Cowpats Team
The 2016 Cowpats winning team (along with President Lance). They sometimes don’t know which way is up … but certainly know how to win!

This year Jamberoo Golf Club have entered 4 teams in the Golf Illawarra Pennants. The B and C Pennants and two teams in the White Horse Cup.

Last season all of our teams performed very well with the B Pennant team finishing a close third in their division, the C Pennant team losing a semi-final in a playoff, and both White Horse Cup teams winning their divisions and playing in a semi-final against each other. The ‘Cowpats’ were able to defeat the Red team in an extra time playoff and then went on to regain the Cup for the second successive year.

This year we are hoping to repeat or even better the 2016 performances and again win a pennant for the club. Tomorrow the first step of the challenge takes place with the team shirt presentation for all teams.

We have several new players in our squads and we would like to welcome them to the Jamberoo Pennant Team fold. It is always great to see  interested members willing to represent our gallant, little club and I am sure that you will all have a terrific and rewarding time.

Team captains this year are: B Pennant – Tony Panecasio; C Pennant – Chris Leckey; White Horse Cup Red team –  Chris Goodwin; and White Horse Cup Cowpats – Col Booth.

Handicap Changes, New Grades and Overall Winner of a Comp

Handicap calculations

From February 1 the way DSR’s are calculated by Golflink will alter slightly. Instead of the current method of allowing the DSR to fall 3 shots under the AMCR it will now be only 1 shot maximum under the AMCR. Any DSR over the AMCR will remain limited to a maximum of 4.

This should reward players who have a great round by allowing them to lose more shots than the current system.

New Grades

Don’t forget on this day that the Grade cut-offs are also set to change at the club. A Grade will be for handicaps of 13 or less, and D Grade will be for handicaps of 27 or more. B Grade becomes 14-19 and C Grade becomes 20-26.

Overall winner

For a trial of 3 months, starting February 1, the match committee have introduced a new prize for the overall winner in any Stableford Competition. This will be to the value of $50. The winners, etc, of the other grades will then be calculated with a first prize of $30, then runner up $25, etc.

Local Rule

The new local rule suggested by the R & A about accidental movement of your ball on a putting green is now in force at Jamberoo. Please see the notice board for complete details and examples.
