News From the Course 14th January

New Web Page Features

Claret Jug
It’s probably only appropriate that a Royal Jamberoo member should get his hands on the famous Claret Jug (though obviously here not due to any particular golfing prowess). Brian O’Hare, who runs the Australian Senior Golfer website, was at the Australian Golf Writers Association annual dinner the Saturday night of the Australian Open, which as a qualifying event for the British Open, was hosting some R&A officials as well as the prestigious trophy.

Brian O’Hare has been working tirelessly to update our web page and has recently added a Veterans Golf Section under the GOLF tab and a Jamberoo weather widget under the NEWS tab.

He has also added a’notices and downloads’ section under the MORE tab.

You might want to also check out the ‘hole by hole’ section under the COURSE tab. The club captain has given insights on how he plays each hole!

Great work Brian and thanks for your time and effort in making our web page very modern and attractive.

Handicap Grade Levels set to Change

From the 1st of February in club competitions,  A grade is set to become ‘handicaps of 13 or less’; B grade will become ‘handicaps from 14 to 19’; C Grade will become ‘handicaps from 20 to 26, and D grade will become ‘handicaps of 27 or more’.

These changes reflect the growing number of B and C grade players in our competitions and attempt to make it possible to give out more prizes for both A and D grades while maintaining those in both B and C grades.

Jamberoo set to host the 2nd Australian Open Footgolf Championships

The 2nd staging of the Australian Footgolf Championship has been set down for November 10, 11 and 12. At this stage Jamberoo Golf club has been approached by Footgolf Australia to again hold this event.

Upcoming Charity Golf Days

Tuesday, February 28: Ladies – Ovarian Cancer Charity Day

Thursday, March 23: White Duck Charity Golf day for Diabetes Australia.

Members might wish to keep their eyes open for these two charity events to be held at the club.

The full year’s golf programme and a listing of important club events can also be viewed on the website under the GOLF tab.

The Saga

Bernie forsook his secret weapon today preferring to walk. Ron C was thus able to make his usual charge and claim victory. After the round Ron was noticed to be limping badly and when questioned said that Bernie had tried to put the skids on him. Apparently Bernie was accused of leaving a banana peel on the down slope of the bridge over the 18th causing Ron to slip on it. Bernie could not be contacted for comment.

This Week’s Results

Another great week of golf at the club saw several high scoring stableford events despite the very hot weather. Last week I forgot to mention the efforts of Michael Sheridan who has won the first three monthly medals in D grade. Michael reckons his aim is to win all 12 to guarantee a gold medal!

B Pennant players are also beginning to warm up for the upcoming season with prize wins in our comps this week. John Paul with a whooping 43 points, Brian Nicoll also with 43 points and Tony Panecasio with 41 points on Wednesday. Congratulations also go to Pat Lawrence on his win on Wednesday in D grade. Pat was obviously feeling refreshed after his recently completed cruise to the South Sea Islands.

  1. He is a great bloke. I know because he told me. He also sets an example on the greens by pulling out couch runners, when time permits.
