Club Championships

The club championships have reached the half-way point and the excitement is growing with many players putting themselves in contention moving into the third round next Saturday.

Adrian Gehrmann leads A grade by 6 after his 74 in round two for a total of 145. Stephen Rippon sits on 151 and Adrian Bell on 155. Adrian Gehrmann also leads the nett on 135, two ahead of Ken Bradley and 5 ahead of Ray Orr.

B Grade is very tight with several players very close to the leader Greg Seymour. Greg sits on 164, Arthur Bosanquet on 165,  Tony McRae on 166, Col Booth on 167 with Andrew Ball and Alan Jones on 168. Tony McRae leads the nett on 132, Alan Jones is second on 134, Col Booth is third on 135 while Warwick Drew is fourth on 136.

C Grade continues to be led by Lance Fredericks on 173 but his lead has been trimmed to 1 with Mark Fisher on 174. Errol Stubbs is next on 177, Gary Harvey is on 178 and Graham Kuskey next on 179. Lance is due to be away the last Saturday but I wonder if he might make a surprise return if he has a good 3rd round.

The Nett in C Grade is led by Mark Fisher on 128 with Gary Harvey next on 130. Graham Kuskey follows on 131.

D Grade has seen a second great round by Ian Martenz who has totaled 188. Next best is John Corr on 196. First round co-leader Pete Wheatley turned in 42 today but came unstuck on the 12th and 14th holes to finish on 199. Ian leads the nett as well on 122 with John Corr next on 130. Peter follows on  139.

Don’t forget that the major championship trophies (and names on the club honour board) are awarded to the gross winner. You can’t win the gross and the nett, so many players still have a good chance in the nett.

Also, if you have not played yet or missed one of the rounds, each week has a separate competition which you could still win. Come out and enjoy the action!

Veteran’s Golf

On Monday our Trevor Bell team travelled to The Grange intent on clawing back the 20 point lead opened up by the Port Kembla team. The conditions were sunny and calm and the course was playing well with the greens in excellent condition. The team put in a strong performance led by Pat Paris who was our best on the day with 43 points. This was a great performance after his return from surgery. Pat was ably supported by Ray Orr (38 points), Karl Edlinger (37), Ron Chilby (34), Theo Schmeider (33) and Geoff Reynolds (31) for a great team total of 216.

However, we were all edged out by Kiama who scored a massive 232 points and as a result they have closed the gap on Port Kembla to only trail them by 4 points with just one round to play at Russell Vale. Jamberoo is still about 25 points adrift and it would take a Herculean effort to overcome the deficit.

NSWVGA Medal

Last Monday was the qualifying round for men to compete for the NSWVGA Medal at Shoalhaven Heads on Monday 14th November. The three qualifiers and the reserves were:

1st           Pat Travers
2nd          Bob Weir
3rd           Geoff Chard
Reserves: Geoff Reid, Stu Potter and Ian Foy.

The winners will be contacted shortly to check on their availability.

This Week’s Results

Perfect spring golfing weather with cool mornings breaking into warm days were experienced at our lovely course this week. The men’s championships have reached their half-way point and the other comps have been well supported as well.

Like the weather the scoring has been hot. On Wednesday Bruce Byers left his stroke form behind and scored +1 to win A grade in the Par competition. The players in the other grades found the course to their liking with Phil Lewis scoring a tremendous +8 in C Grade and John Hol +5 in B grade. On Monday Pat Travers scored an incredible 47 points in the veterans comp and Bob Weir 43 points and the Ladies also scored well on Tuesday.
