Championship – third round update
Rippon bounces back
Often the third round of a tournament is called ‘moving day’. This was certainly the case today with the ‘big guns’ in all grades either consolidating their positions or moving within strike range for a last round challenge. The prospect of playoffs is certainly within the realms of possibilities in each grade. I await with eager anticipation for the final outcome of what has been a extremely exciting club championships, the closest in recent memory.
After two indifferent rounds Steve Rippon has bounced back on ‘moving day’ with a superb 65 off the stick to catch and pass second round leader Adrian Gehrmann to lead by 7. Adrian Bell trails Adrian Gehrmann by another 6. The nett leader in A Grade is Adrian Gehrmann on a countback from Adrian Bell both on 208. Bruce Byers nett 211 leaves him in 3rd place. Several other players are within 6 of the nett lead and it is impossible to predict the nett A Grade winner with the quality of players in contention.
In B Grade, both leading contenders, Greg Seymour and Arthur Bosanquet, fired 80’s off the stick to record third round totals of 244 and 245 respectively. Phil Hellmund’s 79 moves him to third place on 251 while Chris Leckey shot an 81 for 254 to be equal with Andrew Ball. Tony McRae and Alan Jones are also in with a chance on 256 and 257 respectively. The nett is very close with Phil leading on 200 with Tony McRae and Peter Francis both on 204, Alan Jones, Greg Seymour and Stephane Seveque on 205, and Arthur Bosanquet on 206. Again it looks like a very tight finish in both the gross and nett competitions.
Errol Stubbs has certainly moved into a strong position in C Grade where his third round 85 has opened a big gap of 6 from his fellow competitors for him to stand at a total of 262. With Lance Fredericks not able to play next week, Mark Fisher trails Errol by 8, Garry Harvey trails by 10 and Steve Oppert by 12. The nett also sees Errol in the lead on 199 with Garry next on 200 and Mark Fisher next on 201. Paul Tucker has moved into contention on 208.
Ian Martenz still leads D grade on 296 but John Corr has moved to within 2 on 298 with Les Farkas a good chance on 299. Ian leads the nett on 197 with John Corr next on 199 with Keith Hales a distant third on 211.
Remember if you win the championship in your grade you cannot win the nett as well. Also if there is a tie for the championship in any grade, a playoff will be used to decide the champion for that grade. At Jamberoo this means a 4 hole aggregate total over holes 1 -4 and then if the scores are still even, sudden death from the 5th.

Water Outage Wednesday
The club has been notified that the water supply will be disconnected between 9 am and 2 pm this Wednesday. It is suggested that you bring your own bottled water for use on the course or alternatively you can purchase bottled water from the golf shop.
On the wings of an Eagle he soared
It is a dream of every golfer to firstly score a hole-in-one and secondly to score an eagle in a club competition. Last Saturday John Paul managed to score an eagle 3 on the 12th hole after hitting a mammoth drive and iron onto the green before holing a good putt. John is awarded a sleeve of golf balls as a reward for his achievement.

Old clubs for the juniors – old junior sets looking for a new home
We are looking to promote junior golf at the club and we were wondering if any member, who happens to have some old clubs that they are no longer using, that they donate them to the club so that we can convert them into suitable junior sets. Also if you have some old junior sets left over at home maybe you could give them a new home at the club.
If you can help please contact the golf shop or office. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
This week’s results
Another week of fine weather was experienced at the club and many members took advantage of this to have a round of golf. Even Saturday, which started with a drizzle, turned out perfect.
Firstly congratulations go to the Ladies Organising committee for the wonderful ‘Camp Quality’ charity day held at the club on Tuesday. 82 golfers were treated to a great day of competition with an excellent meal, with those wonderful cakes a highlight, at the conclusion of the 2-ball Ambrose event for both Men and Ladies. Over $1500 was raised for this worthwhile charity as well. First prize with the Ladies were the R Flood- L Robinson team with 66. In the Men’s section, the best were the team of Greg Seymour- John Ellsmore with a brilliant 58 nett. For a complete list of winners please consult the results page on the website.
On Monday only a small field of 18 played in the Veterans comp with Alistair Fraser winning with 36 points from Doug Perry on 34 points.
On Wednesday 81 golfers entered the stableford competition with the winners being Greg Tarrant in A Grade with 43 points, Al Thomas with 44 points won B Grade,Garry Harman, from Howlong GC, won C Grade with 41 points and Rob Mitchell won D grade with 37 points.
In Saturday’s stroke round John Paul won A grade with a nett 63 with Wayne Griffiths second with nett 65. The 12th hole fought back against John today where he recorded a 7 after his 3 on the same hole last week. B Grade was won by Johnny Bermudez with a nett 62 on a countback from Phil Hellmund. C Grade was won by Errol Stubbs with a nett 64 with Eric Nyholm second with a 67. D grade winner was Les Farkas with a 66 followed by Bob Crooks with a 67. Shirley Walsh was the Ladies winner.
