News From the Course 21 August

Men’s Foursomes

Congratulations go to Jarrod and Adrian Gehrmann on their 2 shot win in the Foursomes Championship. Their round consisted of scores in the thirties for each of the 3 nine holes played. Trailing by one with three holes to play they played the last three holes in sensible manner taking only 14 shots. Opponents Tony Panecasio and Scott Hainsworth became another victim of the dreaded 16th taking a 7 to lose the lead and finish second, playing the same stretch of holes in 17. They were consoled with the prize of best nett score of the day. Ray Orr and Arthur Bosanquet finished third best while Bruce Byers and Lew Dare along with Pat Paris and Adrian Bell finished equal fourth.

The other pairs were not as successful but still had a lot of fun hacking out of bushes and from under trees.

Congratulations to the 2016 champions and also well done to the other pairs who through their attendance helped support our club.

The trees strike back!

Two of our members are starting to believe that the trees are alive and want to play. Phil Hellmund not only found his ball in a tree on the 10th but also his club. A ball scoop was required to rescue both. Then Mick Bartlett had his sun glasses snatched by the bush just to the right of the third. On inspection I swear the tree was wearing them!

Watch out, the trees are on the move.

Pitch Marks, Divot Holes and Scuff Marks

Currently the greens are running very fast and there is nothing worse to look at your putt and find 5 badly repaired pitch marks on your line. Come on gentlemen. Please tap down scuff marks and use a pitch repairer to fix your pitch marks, even those small ones made by a chip shot.

Don’t just tap a pitch mark down with the back of your putter.

Also, if you make a divot on a tee or on the course, use the sand in your sand bucket to repair it.

If you want to have good greens, tees and fairways then all of us have to do our bit.

Slow play

Your place in the field is directly behind the group in front of you not in front of the group behind you.

All of us play bad shots on occasions and it is often necessary to look for the offending ball. If you lose a hole doing this and can’t make up the gap, call the group behind you through. It’s not about egos. It’s about having courtesy for your fellow members.

This week’s results

A blustery end of the week sorted out the men from the boys on Saturday and Sunday, but otherwise a lovely week to play golf.

A good week for Graham Kuskey, Ray Pearson and Scott Hainsworth with each winning 2 prizes.

And welcome back from Ireland to Col Booth with a second prize on Saturday.

Wednesday saw Ladies European Tour Player Bree Arthur play in our competition along with Drummond Golf manager Kris Morrison. Bree struck the ball impressively and only a lack of local course knowledge and poor advice on club selection caused her to shoot a score higher than her ability suggested. Still she played the back nine under par.

Well played to all of our members who supported our comps this week.
