A great week of golf with almost perfect weather conditions attracted good sized fields to our club competitions. The greens are fast and hold true to their line and the winning scores are starting to climb as a consequence.
Congratulations go to Marie Farrant and Pat Paris on their win in the mixed foursomes championships. It was very closely contested affair and their winning score of 133 over the 27 holes was one better than the runners up, Kay Brennan and Bruce Byers. Marie is a very accomplished foursomes player having won this title several times and Pat is also quite good at this alternate shot format as well having won a men’s foursomes in the past. Together they are quite a formidable team.
Next year we would love to see more pairs giving it a go. I can attest that it is quite a fun day and very challenging to both partners. More so to the ladies who are not used to playing their shots from where their male partners put them. You know, under trees or into water hazards!
The Men’s foursomes and Ladies foursomes are coming up soon. Grab a partner and have a go. Take yourself out of your comfort zone and be challenged.
The Ladies contested the Dena Kyle Trophy on Tuesday and I note that Judi O’Brien scored 36 points to have the best score in all grades. Well done Judi.
Keith Hales is back from OS and already back into his winning ways with a solid performance on Saturday. Gordon Dill has put his hammer away after repairing the western wall of the members’ room. He grabbed second prize on Saturday.
Unfortunately on Saturday several players forgot to sign their cards. Please don’t forget as we hate to DQ you for such a simple oversight. Make sure your marker signs it too.
Chris Goodwin celebrated his 64th birthday with style on Wednesday having 1 putt for each of his years on Earth (so his playing partners said). If you see Chris this week give him the traditional punch in the arm.
And finally, congratulations to all those members who helped with the mulching day last week. The gardens are looking fantastic and a great credit to you all.
