Russell Vale Junior Jack Tournament

Juniors Nathan Harrington, Harry Wright and Lachlan Harrington

THREE of Jamberoo’s up and coming junior golfers participated in a Junior Jack Classic held at Russell Vale Golf Club on Monday 11th July 2011. Junior Jack tournaments are beginner golfer tournaments played over 9 or 18 holes from modified tees. The tournaments are designed for players who are under 14 years of age who either do not hold an official GolfAustralia handicap or hold an official GolfAustralia handicap of greater than 20.

Harry Wright,Lachlanand Nathan Harrington teed off in the 9 hole competition in cool windy conditions with the Russell Vale greens extremely fast with some difficult pin positions. The boys are relatively new to golf and have honed their skills at the Friday afternoon junior lessons conducted by Club Pro Jim Butt. The boys had not played the Russell vale course previously but acquitted themselves well.

Nathan had an excellent day, scoring par on four of the 9 holes, was declared winner of the 9 hole competition (under the Callaway system), and walked away with his first golf trophy at the presentation ceremony concluding the event.

The next step for the boys is gaining a Golf Australia handicap by submitting three completed 18 hole cards.  They can then play in our regular competitions and perhaps in the Club’s Junior Championship, scheduled to be held in conjunction with the third and fourth rounds of the Men’s Club Championship s on Saturday Sept 3rd and 10th. They may also wish to play in the Jamberoo Junior Open held on Thursday Sept 29th. Who knows, if we can swell the ranks, we may be in position to enter a team in the Illawarra Junior Pennant tournament held over Feb / March each year.
