Pennant Results 14th February

Another great day for the Jamberoo club with all teams remaining undefeated.

B Pennant vs The Grange at the Links Shell Cove

The B Pennant squad kept their playoff chances still alive when they drew their match against the Grange 2.5 each. This means our team remains unbeaten and well in line to qualify.

Again it was a close fought match which came down to the final putt in the final match. Adrian Bell was 2 down after 11 holes and fought back to be all square on the 17thtee. After a tough approach shot to the green on 17, Adrian lost the hole to be 1 down on the final tee. A rifled tee shot followed by a solid approach saw him win the last and square the match. Anthony Smith was giving his opponent a 3 shot handicap advantage and played well but lost 4/3.

Tony Panecasio carried on his recent excellent club form to easily account for his opponent 5/3. Jarrod Gehrmann, fresh from night shift, struggled in the hot and humid conditions and came up against a fresh opponent who kept sinking ‘long bombs’, eventually losing 3/2.

Paul Hazeltine again playing at 5 in a continuation of last week’s tactics, started quickly out of the box for an early 4 up lead. Supported by ‘super caddy’ Andrew Craddock, he maintained this margin eventually winning 4/3. Thanks to Pat Paris for coming along and supporting his team mates.

The team is very positive about reaching the semi-finals but we require 3 straight wins. The team will remain unchanged going into the next match against Russell Vale at Moss Vale and look forward to a good result.

WHC REDS vs Links Shell Cove at Gibraltar Golf Club

A very close encounter at the hilly Gibraltar Golf Club against the very strong and experienced Shell Cove team was a fantastic result for the REDS. Our team won 4 – 2.

With two matches still on the course it was 2 – 2 and both games were all square on the 16th tee. Luckily for us two of our most consistent and experienced players were involved and both managed to win the 16th and 17th holes to close out their matches 2/1.

Firstly, Lance Fredericks playing an exceptional, high quality game against a tough opponent managed successive winning holes to win the match 3 – 2. Then it was Arthur Bosanquet’s turn. Arthur was playing a big hitting 3 marker, but Arthur’s consistent straight down the middle then onto the green game eventually wore his opponent down enabling him to secure the victory for Jamberoo 4 – 2.

Earlier, Peter Francis had a tight 3/2 victory after trailing early in his match. Steve Jackson played very intelligently and never trailed winning 3/2. Brad Jackson suffered a rare defeat and lost 3/1. Brad hit the ball much better than his opponent but the golf ball refused to go into the hole for him all day, often hanging on the lip. Ken Bradley also suffered a loss 4/3 and struggled around the hilly course. At one stage I thought I would need to call a ‘medi-cab’ as his back seized up on him. I’m sure both will bounce back next weekend at Kiama.

The boys were very appreciative of Arthur who reconnoitered the unknown Gibraltar layout mid-week giving a detailed report to his team mates.

Another tough encounter against the experienced Bowral team awaits us next weekend.

C Pennant vs Links Shell Cove at Jamberoo

Round 3

JAMBEROO WINS 3/2

In true “NEVER GIVE UP” C Pennant style the Jamberoo team snatches victory out of the jaws of defeat.

Boyd Sylvester teed off 1st and took the lead early to be 4up most of the match, eventually winning 4/3. Come the 15th Boyd was greeted by Chris and Tony who came up against 2 opponents who caught them by surprise with  4/3 and 7/6 losses.

All of a sudden we were down 2/1 and news was not good with Greg and Tom dueling the lead in their matches.

Greg was playing his 1st pennants match and was quite stunned how many pars his opponent was getting. Greg showed true ticker and powered home winning the last 3 holes to win 2/1. Greg will be a great asset for the team.

Tom Zimmerman 2015 Club Championship
Tom Zimmermann tees off on the 13th hole

It was the ever reliable Tom Zimmermann who saved the day winning 3/2 playing no.1. Tom showed his class over the final 4 holes where there was considerable pressure on him to get the win, well done mate.

We can be buoyed by that win and with Tim captaining and Wayne back next week we play Port on their home turf and look forward to a good match.

WHC Green Team vs Links Shell Cove at Worrigee Links

The GT’s have accelerated to another win 4.5 to 1.5 this time against the Links Shell Cove.

Captain Col writes,

Bugsy would have been proud of the Cowpats on Sunday, “Leave something on the table”, said Scott. The ‘Links’ became the ‘Missing Links’. ……….4.5 /1.5 to the Cowpats.

With the Saint being accidently wounded prior to the game and Mark given 3 hours sleep on Saturday [can someone volunteer as a relief driver on Saturday Nights] the Cowpats gave the Links every opportunity to knock us off.

All players contributed to the slaughter on St Valentine’s Day.

Matt Tedeschi eagle 2 on 2nd 25th of july'15
