News from the Course

Congratulations to popular member Mal Garratt on his superb shot to the 13th during Saturday’s monthly medal. After 40 years of trying, Mal finally achieved every golfer’s dream of a hole-in-one.

A supremely hit six iron did the trick on a hole often rated the toughest of our par threes. As a memento, Mal’s ball will be mounted and six balls added to his account as a reward from the club for his great shot.

Well played and congratulations Mal.

While Mal found it easy some others found the course a trifle harder on Saturday. Several double figure scores were recorded on holes and one unfortunate player managed two! Without mentioning names this well-known board member and current C Grade champion claimed to have had a “Tin Cup” moment on the 6th hole. He kept firing them out of bounds until he got one in play {like Kevin Costner in the movie “Tin Cup”}. Sixteen shots later the hole and his monthly medal chances were over. As he kept reloading one of his partners asked him to hit an old ball, to which he replied, “I don’t have any”!

PS1 Don’t forget that the club Foursomes Championship will be played next Sunday 9th August. It is played over 27 holes and defending champions Matt and Adrian Bell have reunited in a quest to go back-to-back. This year, for the first time in Jamberoo Golf Club history, if there is a tie for the title then a four-hole playoff will be used to determine the winner. The booking sheet is available in the golf shop.

PS2 Good news, Jamberoo has been awarded the Golf-Illawarra Foursomes Championship which will be played on the 23rd of August. Entry forms are available at the club for those wishing to enter this prestigious event.
