Mens Championship Round 1

Perfect conditions greeted our 71 first round contestants. With the flags set up in reasonably friendly positions and with the greens running smoothly and true, some good scoring was expected.

This was certainly the case with Craig Foster firing a sensational 70 off the stick in A grade, Bill Read a nice 81 in B grade, and John Hol and Cam Bartkowiak both shooting excellent scores of 85 in C Grade. Second in A grade was Martin Perry with a 75, in B Grade, Peter Francis with 82, and third in C grade, Jake Henderson with an 88.

In the nett competition in A grade Craig leads with a nett 61, Andrew Ball is second with 64 and John Anthony third with a 66.

In B Grade, Peter leads with a nett 63, Bill Read with a 65 and Boyd Sylvester with a nett 66.

In C Grade, Cam leads with nett 59, John is second with nett 62 and Stephen Kennedy third with nett 63.

Remember you can’t win the nett if you have won a gross championship.

So after round 1 the standard has been set.

Good luck in tomorrow’s second round.

Some rules clarifications.

  1. In the championships 30cm preferred lies are allowed in the general areas of the course if required. This is due to the number of divots and the remaining flood damage to the course.
  2. To speed up play a maximum score of 9 on any hole has been set as a local rule. Of the two players that recorded a 10 on a hole today their score was adjusted back to 9 to make it consistent for all players.
  3. The match committee understands that there was some confusion for some over the these local rules today. The noticeboard now has the correct version of the rules.
