MEMORIAL BENCHES.

The Club wants to purchase more memorial benches to be placed around the course. Single-pedestal benches with only one support (such as the one pictured, next to the 11th tee box) are less likely to be swept away in floods than benches that have two supports. We’re having trouble finding where to buy them. If anyone can help, please send us an email.

Gareth Ward Visits Jamberoo Golf Club

Last Friday Jamberoo Golf Club had the pleasure of hosting our local State member of Parliament, Gareth Ward.

Gareth was invited to tour the course with Club President Phil and Women’s President Pam along with our Greenkeeper Nick.

Afterwards he was pleased to present club volunteer stubby holders at a special afternoon tea.

While touring the course Gareth was presented with a special pictorial folder which highlighted the recent issues suffered at the course.

A Pictorial Tour Of Flood Impacts on Jamberoo Golf Course 2024

The tour of the course along with constant reference to a pictorial folder of the ‘Armageddon’ we faced after the April flood event, combined with being met by a large team of volunteers had quite a dramatic effect on our local member. Gareth was very sincere in conveying to Phil his strong support for our club in the face of our obvious difficulties.

A comment by Col Booth, Director JGC

Two political careers were launched on Friday during Gareth Wards’ visit. Instead of slow driving to enable Phil to Maximise Jamberoo’s presentation to Gareth Ward, Pam Middlebrook, driving the Royal Chariot and using her parliamentary tactical knowledge opted for the Slow Battery flickering light manoeuvre, often used in Federal Parliament. This allowed Phil to thoroughly explain using his legislative petition of what Armageddon looks like on a Golf course.

Jamberoo now have two vehicles abandoned on the Golf Course one in the Minnamurra River and one near the Minnamurra River!
Gareth was also so impressed with Jamberoo’s ‘Little Red Fire Engine’ that he would like to use in Parliament House to hose down some uninteresting debates.

The Jamberoo Board would like to thank all the Volunteers who attended on Friday Afternoon to ensure Gareth’s visit will deliver over time a strong charge to all the Members and subsequent benefits to eventuate.

News from the Club

TREE MAINTENANCE.

by R Neilson, Greens Committee.

Members will have noticed tree work continuing this year, including removal of several box elders on the 5th and 9th and trimming of casuarinas beside the 5th tee and on the 11th and 12th. A few dead trees have also been removed, but the focus has been on opening up the chutes on holes where trees interfere excessively with tee shots.

Following receipt of a second Work Authority Tree Permit from Kiama Council, we can now continue with tree work on holes 11, 12, 15 & 18.

You will notice trees that have small markers attached. White means approval for work is being sought, blue means we have permission to trim and red means we have permission to remove.

There are also plans to plant trees in various areas around the course.

Work on our Tree Management Plan has been hampered by flooding, wet weather and staff shortages, but more will be done soon by our ground staff and by contracted arborists. We will try to inconvenience golfers as little as possible, but holes may occasionally need to be closed or changed temporarily. If tree work is being carried out while you are on the course, please be careful and patient.

If you have any suggestions or queries concerning trees, just speak to any Board member or send a quick email to the Club.

2024 Club Individual Matchplay.

Continuing with the new tradition, started last year, any member may participate in the Club Matchplay Competition if they nominate to play. I failed to mention this in yesterday’s post which has now been amended.

There are some conditions of entry.

Firstly, players must nominate and participate in the seeding day this Saturday (unless being a notified absentee – see below).

Once seeds have been determined and the draw published then the competition will commence. All matches in each round must be played by the date notified on the draw. The number of players that nominate will determine the number of seeds. Not all people who ask to qualify will necessarily gain a position.

No late entries will be accepted. If you wish to enter but will be absent on Saturday then you need to notify the club before this Saturday. Please ring the starter on 4236 0404.

An entry fee of $16 must be paid before commencing the first round.

All play is to be from the Blue Course using the blue tees.

Daily handicaps will be used and shots given shall be determined using the Balanced Matchplay Index.

Player contact details are available from the starter.

We look forward to an exciting competition.
