Rules from the Course May 6

The big wet has hit the course again and at least one hole (to my knowledge) has water lying on its fairway. With further rain predicted for the rest of Sunday and Monday it would be prudent to call the starters to confirm your game before making the trip to the course. On Saturday the course was drying quickly before the onset of more wet stuff at about 1 pm and it is yet to be determined if play will be possible.

Some changes have been made to the local rules concerning preferred lies.

CONDITIONS OF PLAY – from Monday 6 May 2024

Until further notice

  1. 30 cm preferred lies through the green (ie rough and fairway).
  2. Free drops are available from any flood damaged area or bare patch through the green.
  3. Relief maybe taken under rule 16.1d from damaged sections of greens no nearer the hole, if your ball lies on that section or if it interferes with your line of your putt [only if your ball is on the green].
  4. Any debris that is stock piled for removal is GUR.
  5. 16.1e. Relief for Ball Not Found but in or on Abnormal Course Condition

If a player’s ball has not been found and it is known or virtually certain that the ball came to rest in or on an abnormal course condition on the course, the player may use this relief option instead of taking stroke-and-distance relief:

  • The player may take relief under Rule 16.1b, c or d, using the estimated point where the ball last crossed the edge of the abnormal course condition on the course as the spot of the ball for purposes of finding the nearest point of complete relief.
  • Once the player puts another ball in play to take relief in this way:
    • The original ball is no longer in play and must not be played.
    • This is true even if it is then found on the course before the end of the three-minute search time (see Rule 6.3b)

If it is not known or virtually certain that the ball came to rest in or on an abnormal course condition and the ball is lost, the player must   take stroke-and-distance relief under Rule 18.2.
