News from the Course – February 18

Nearest the Pin & Drive and Pitch Contests.

After discussions with the match committee some changes with regards to Nearest the Pin and Drive and Pitch contests are to be made.

All changes will commence on the 1st of March.

These contests will now be contested in grades.

A Grade – Plus to 15; B Grade 16 to 21; C Grade 22 to 45.

A Grade: D & P on 16th (10th hole during construction work on the 16th if necessary), with NTP on 13th.

B Grade: D & P on 8th, with NTP on 9th.

C Grade: D & P on 2nd, with NTP on 7th.

The Eagles Nest will remain on the 3rd hole for Saturday comps and any player can win it. Check the noticeboard to see the distance required to collect the jackpot.

Women’s D & P will stay on the 11th.

The Super Shot will move to the 3rd hole from 1st March for each comp day [including Saturday]. It will rotate to other par 3’s regularly.

Only those who pay the entry fee and sign the entry sheet are eligible to win the prize.

It is possible to win the Eagles Nest and the Super Shot on the same day if it is a Saturday, or perhaps only the Super Shot.

It is hoped that more golfers, in each division, will have a far better chance of being successful in these contests.

Thanks all,

Larry Kent

Club Captain, on behalf of the Match Committee

Construction work on the 16th hole set to start.

After the delay caused by the contractors machinery breaking down, the work on repairing the bank on the 16th is soon to commence. A new pathway and dredging of the lake is also part of the project.

At this stage works are to start Monday 24th or Tuesday 25th next week.

Works will be undertaken mid-week so interruptions to the course routing will only apply mid-week it is envisaged.

It has been decided, for safety reasons, that during the construction period, holes 16 and 17 will not be in play.

The course routing will be 1-15, then 18, then replay holes 1 and 4.

Scores for holes 1 and 4 the second time round are to placed against hole 16 and hole 17. The par and rating will remain the same as for 16 and 17.

Sunday Pennant Results

Only the B and C Pennant teams hit the field today with mixed results.

B Pennant team win a close encounter at Kiama.

Congratulations to the B Pennant “Smashers” who played against Worrigee Links at Kiama today.

In a very close match, Jamberoo came out winners 4 to 2.

Winners were Joel McIntosh 3/2, Kyle van Woerkom 5/4, and Anthony Smith 6/5. Lee Hayward and Steve Norris squared their matches, and Chris Leckey was unsuccessful with his putter misbehaving.

It was great to see April come out and caddy for Kyle, Joel controlled his match to record a good win, and Anthony won easily but claims he had luck on his side. Lee and Steve both held on for draws which in the end determined the result for Jamberoo.

Well played the “Smashers”. Next week they play Moss Vale at Shoalhaven Heads.

C Pennant team suffer first defeat of the season at Port Kembla.

The strong Gerringong team claimed victory 4-2 today in a very close encounter. Winners were Pat Paris 2/1, and John Anthony 3/1. Not so fortunate were Andrew Ransom, Tom Zimmermann, Glen Bayo and Ken Bradley.

Pat was ceding 80 metres to his opponent off the tee but his excellent short game overwhelmed his opponent in the end.

John again kept the ball in play off the tee allowing him to maintain pressure on his gallant opponent.

Glen’s match see-sawed all day but Glen’s lack of course knowledge saw his opponent win a close match.

Andrew came up against a very good player who smashed his drives down the middle allowing him to show his skills around the green to good effect.

Tom and Ken both were defeated on the 18th green and with a little luck may have halved their matches. Both needed to win their last holes but their wily opponents cleverly matched them shot for shot to claim victory for their team.

Great to see Shane and Wayne at the course today supporting our team. Cheers.

Next week the Kookaburras play Shoalhaven Heads at Kiama.

White Horse Cup Teams Primed for their next matches.

With byes today both our WHC teams look forward to their next matches.

The Cowpats are at the Links Shell Cove next Sunday and play Kiama.

The Magpies are at Shoalhaven Heads and play Shoalhaven Heads.

Friday News and Rules Review

Lion Carts Serviced.

The following was performed under warranty (free of charge)

  1. Speed reduced to 14k
  2. Seat belt buckle reversed so will prevent contact with passengers
  3. Changed shocks to lighter type
  4. Tyre pressure changed to 18psi

Both Greg & Rod drove the carts and found them much improved for our course needs.

“Our new LION carts have had a few modifications done to them. This has improved the comfort and the general use of this cart. Having test drove one after the mods I found it more in keeping with our needs at Jamberoo”.

Rod Hodkinson

American Foursomes This Saturday.

Both players play tee shots at each hole, then play a second stroke with their partner’s ball.
One ball is then selected and play proceeds alternatively as in foursomes, so that if Player B hit the second
shot with the selected ball, Player A hits the next shot and play alternates until the hole is
completed. Handicap allowance is ⅜ of aggregate stroke handicap for stroke competitions.

Rules Update.
