News from the Course

Veteran Medalists.

At the recent Veterans shotgun start day the weather turned very ugly as we waited to move to our designated tees. With a break in the rain at the right moment players quickly moved to their designated tees awaiting the blast on the hooter.

The showers persisted but this did not discourage the 70 players who completed their rounds, sodden but not deterred.

The fourball winners on the day were Jeff Draper and George Wells with a well complied score of 45 points. The minor placings went to 2nd:  Bill Morris & Rod Poidevin  43 pts   3rd:  Geoff Reid & Ken Holt  42 pts   4th:  Brian Aboozaid & Alan Jones   41 pts (c/b).

After a fine sausage sizzle, cooked perfectly by Lance Fredericks and John Pringle, it was time for the official proceedings.

It was with great pleasure that Geoff Reid and Gary Brickell were announced as our inaugural Winter and Spring Medalists.

Well dressed medalists -Geoff and Gary accept their medals.

Following the wine raffle, Lance Fredericks spoke to our Veteran Members about the upcoming Seaside and Valley Vets tournament which will be held at Jamberoo and Kiama from Monday 25 till Friday 29th of November with Jamberoo hosting round 1 on the Monday and the team fourball on the Friday. For those interested please see the flyers around the club. All money raised by Jamberoo in the tournament raffle will be returned to our Veterans club.

The Vets Summer Medal will be contested on Monday 9th of December and presented at the Xmas BBQ and Shotgun start day to be held on Monday the 16th of December.

B9 is alive.

The Blokes 9 hole (B9 for short) comp will be held on Thursday 17th from 2.30 pm. A very interesting round of golf is to be expected, not to mention a few ales sunk in the aftermath.

Plenty of banter will be exchanged I am sure!

Types of 2 Ball Stableford competitions.

Normally we play a 4 Ball Best Ball Stableford where the best stableford score per team of 2 per hole is recorded as the team score. It is called a fourball best ball because there are 4 players in each group making up the 2 teams. In reality it should be a 2BBB.

On occasions this 2 ball event has its scoring format changed.

Instead of taking the best score per hole sometimes both stableford scores of the team are added together. This is known as an aggregate, or 2 Ball aggregate.

Sometimes the team score on each hole is found by multiplying the individual stableford scores together. This is called a Multiplier, or 2 Ball Multiplier.

On even rarer occasions instead of taking the best stableford score per hole the worst score is taken. This known as a 2 Ball Stableford Worst Ball.

Sometimes a combination of these formats is used. This is known as a split six.
