A very exciting and close match was played on Friday morning of the 24th of October; a fitting finale to a great tournament full of tense matches with close results. The finalists were Richard Bremner and Peter Saunders up against Pat Paris and Chris Goodwin and course conditions could not be any better with mild, windless conditions and receptive greens.
Chris and Pat opened up ‘on fire’ winning each of the first three holes but the pugnacious pair of Richard and Peter didn’t abandon their match plan and were soon back to all square. This is how the match remained,’ toing and throwing’; with one team unable to establish a lead over the other.
It came down to the 17th where the writer was privileged to see a magnificent shot from Peter to inches from the hole for a ‘give-me’ birdie. Pat also hit one in close but his putt agonizingly just missed leaving Richard and Peter the lead with one to play. Chris and Pat gave it a good try on 18 but were unable to hold off Richard and Peter who went on to record a 2 up victory.
Richard and Peter were delighted to win a club title for the first time and thanked their playing partners for an excellent game played in true Jamberoo Golf Club spirit.
Congratulations to our 4 finalists and well played to our winners.
