News from the course 20/10/14

No score was safe during the week ending the 12th of October.

In the Wednesday comp G Harman recorded a whopping 45 individual points in Division 1, whilst Keith Hales repeated the dose in Division 2. Several scores in the 40’s were recorded on the day and the DSR was pushed down to 62. Incidentally the ‘eaglist’, Steve Rippon, had another on the twelfth during this comp.

In the Saturday monthly medal, scores again reflected the pureness of the greens and the run on the course. Tim Young, in A division and Steve Jackson, in B division, both managed nett 60, dashing the hopes of Arthur Bosanquet in A grade with nett 62 and Chris Goodwin in B grade with nett 61. The C grade scores were also low with Ken Barker shooting a nett 63. Best gross score on the day was Adrian Gehrmann with a fine 71.

Nathan Harrington continued his great run of form with 45 points on the October long weekend comp. His handicap continues to plummet but still has some ‘play’ in it so it seems!

With the rain let’s hope scores return to their more usual level and give the rest of us a chance!

Who says that position doesn’t have its privileges at Jamberoo?

It has come to the writer’s attention that vice-president Chris Goodwin (aka Danny ) reached the semi-finals of the handicap matchplay and was due to play Adrian Bell in this match on Saturday 18th. On first look a seemingly normal occurrence and well played Chris. A closer look at the draw, however, illustrates a very unique happening. Chris has won each of his matches due to the ill-health of his opponent (twice), or with his opponent absent overseas.  Chris has explained this as a natural result of his reputation as a fearsome match player. Others tend to wonder if his middle name isn’t Lucky!

I can assure you that it has nothing to do with his position on the board!

Adrian was reported to be seeing his local GP for a complete physical and was assured that he was perfectly fit and healthy and ready to participate in the semi-final on the Saturday.

UPDATE: Adrian Bell did manage to overcome the “jinx” and defeated Chris Goodwin 4&3 on Saturday. But he did have to get the shoes and socks off here on the 15th to play a match winning chip from the dam.
