THEY say a tournament doesn’t really start until the back nine of the fourth round. Will this be the case at the Jamberoo Men’s Championships this year?

In each Grade several players have a realistic chance to force a result or to hang on their lead. Only time will tell!

Gehrmann Strikes back!

Club champion Adrian Gehrmann fired a very impressive 71 on Saturday’s third round of the club championship to close within 6 of leader Steve Rippon (218), setting up a nerve-wracking finish to the club championships on October 12.

Reports were that Adrian peppered the flag all day and could have gone lower if a few putts would have dropped for him. Steve managed a 76 despite the afternoon hurricane-force winds that ended the chances of many players caught out in the fierce and almost unplayable conditions. Adrian Bell, also playing in the afternoon, managed to salvage a 79 to retain third spot with Paul Hazeltine on 233.

Congratulations go to Simon Tedeschi for his 74 off the stick (and nett 61). Simon’s excellent round has moved him to a 3 shot lead in the nett event over Paul Hazeltine with Ray Orr a further 2 shots back.

Chilby ices the field

In the B grade section Ron Chilby (83) has jumped two shots clear on 248 over Bernie McGlinchey (84) with Peter Francis shooting an 88 to hold third position on 253. Con Kiayias, Matt Tedeschi, Danny Fanning and Tim Young will need super rounds after finishing on 259 if they are to catch the leaders.

Ron also leads the nett on 200 over Danny Fanning on 202 and Matt Tedeschi and Bernie McGlinchey on 205. Pete Francis and Craig Starr will need good rounds if they are to make an impression on this year’s title after finishing round 3 on nett 208 and 212 respectively.

Ryan holds onto the lead

In the C grade section Jim Ryan (264) holds a 5 shot lead over Warwick Drew while Michael Carr and Gary Humphries are well positioned for a last round challenge finishing on 272. Chris Goodwin, Alvin Ray and Boyd Sylvester also have a chance if they can fire in a good score in round 4.

Andrew Ball, following his nett 58 in round 2 fired another fantastic round of nett 61 in round 3 and now leads the nett event by 5 shots. Another superb round by Andrew will not only grab him the nett title but perhaps the overall C grade as well. Jim Ryan, Garry Humphries, Alvin Ray, Warwick Drew and Brett Fielding will need to on form if they are to survive Andrew’s challenge.

Round 4 awaits on October 12. Enjoy the week off stroke play and come back firing. Good luck to all.
