(L to R) Athol Casey and Mike Harris defeated 2012 Champions Peter Francis and Tony McRae

Athol Casey and Mike Harris have won the club fourball matchplay championship with a 4 and 3 win over last year’s winners Tony McRae and Peter Francis.
Athol and Mike combined brilliantly to inflict defeat on the strong combination of, Peter and Tony last years’ winners, being 2 up on the turn, Athol & Mike were 3 up by the time they had got to the 13th. On the 13th, Peter who had been deadly with his putter all day, sank a 20ft putt from off the green, to again reduce the lead to 2up, and one wondered if as they say, ”the worm had turned”. With the big 5 Holes to play the pressure was on. Playing the 14th into a strong S/E wind, Athol with a stroke over the rest of the field ,did a Peter and knocked in a brilliant 20ft putt from off the green for a win.
Athol & Mike were 3up with 4 to play. Into the wind again, excellent tee shots on the par 3, 15th saw all players putting for par’s , the pressure was intense, one by one Athol, Peter and Tony missed their par putts , all square on the hole at this stage, it then came to the worst putter of the foursome Mike, with a tricky 8ft downhill left to righter , closing his eyes ,Mike’s putt was on its way, the rattle, it was in the cup, the nail had been delivered , it was enough for them to take the title.
Well done to all 4 finalists for a match played in true sportsman-like tradition, and a big congratulations to the winning pair, who are deserved victors having been runners/up on a couple occasions in previous years
