Changes to Drive & Pitch Hole.

New Captain, Peter Hackett, has suggested that the “drive and pitch” hole be changed from the 8th to the 2nd. This was approved by the Match Committee.

Members please note that from Saturday 24th August this will take place.

To even up the number of players in each grade changes regarding handicap cut-offs for each grade are being investigated as are the location of “nearest the pin” holes. Members will be informed if and when such changes are made.

Worm Whisperers.

The Garden Volunteers are a ‘salt of the earth’ breed, and the Roo are fortunate to have so many grains of salt.

We all know that Golf can be a challenging game but who knew that retrieving your ball could turn into an adventure worthy of a nature documentary with garden presentations, creating new distractions for golfers or for some finding hidden solace.

“The New Roo” – The Hanging Gardens of Jamberoo!

‘The Volunteers Golf Course”  revealing new and past golf course history previously hidden.

Gary Brickell, is not a one-off example but this is his story and would be reflective of Bruce, Tracey, and the rest of the Garden Volunteers.

Thanks to the heavy rains the base of our trees have become a jungle of low growth making it nearly impossible for golfers to find their balls.

But fear not!

Our intrepid volunteers have stepped up to the challenge armed with one irons and pruning shears.

Nick with his new toys is also making his presence felt with the Roo back to its magical best.

As they trim the branches at the base of trees and clear the debris, they uncover a hidden world of earthworms, a veritable base camp of wriggling wonders. The local bird wildlife especially the Kookaburra’s couldn’t be happier. In fact some of our volunteers have earned the nickname the ‘Worm Whisperers’ from our feathered friends.

So, when next time you see a volunteer hard at work give them a nod of appreciation. They are not just clearing the way for your golf balls they are also making the Kookaburra’s day.

Happy Golfing and Worm Whispering.
