News from the Course

Matchplay Final Decided.

The 2023 Individual Matchplay final was held today between two very worthy players, Les Skarratts and Patrick Paris.

Captain Larry Kent, acting as match referee, reports on a very close match, well deserving of a final and played in a very good spirit.

“The match went hole for hole for the first 7 holes with neither player able to establish a lead over their opponent. Pat eventually was able to take the halfway lead 2 up.

Les made a strong come back winning the next 2 holes, so after 11 holes the game was back to all square. At this point the game was well and truly on with neither player able to break away from their opponent matching hole for hole, shot for shot.

Finally at the 16th green, taking advantage of a rare wayward second shot from Les, Pat played it carefully to take a 1 up lead. After the 17th was squared it came down to a dramatic finish on the 18th.

Both players hit good tee shots setting up an exciting finish, unfortunately Les found the water with his second shot leaving the door open for Pat, who then played an excellent shot to the greenside. Les, after taking the penalty, played a good shot also finishing next to the green.

At this point the crafty Pat chipped neatly next to the pin leaving a metre putt for victory. At this point Les, with a display of fine sportsmanship towards his opponent, conceded the victory to Pat.

A well played game by both players deserving their spots in the final.

Congratulations to our 2023 match play champion Pat Paris”.

Entries are now being taken for the Mens Fourball Matchplay championships.

The entry form is located on the table in the golf shop.

Red Tee Markers

Captain Larry Kent has made a decision concerning the troublesome (to some) issue concerning the placement of the Red tee markers.

We have at the moment only Mens and Womens White and Blue Courses. In the past these have been designated by White and Blue tee markers.

Please note the clarification in the following paragraphs.

The red tee markers are for women players. They will be used for all competitions run by the Women’s Committee.

In all other competitions play will proceed from the white or blue tee markers depending on the course being played.

  1. Hi there, we’d like to register 3 boys for the junior coaching clinic on 28 September.

2 of them are members – Blake McKillop and Austin McKillop

One isn’t a member – his name is Kaylan Fuentes

Can you let us know if there’s any cost involved.
    Thanks!

    1. The 3 boys would be most welcome. No cost involved and light lunch supplied.
I will send through the names to the organisers.
      Best wishes.
