Mixed Foursomes Championship

I might not be playing this year but I am certainly looking forward to Sunday’s Mixed Foursomes.

Marie Farrant and Patrick Paris are the defending champions and deserve to start as favourites. It won’t be easy with each team having a great chance to win either the gross championship or the nett prize. Many teams have been spotted out on the course getting in some team practice so the defending champions will need to be on their best form.

It could even go down to a playoff to decide the winner.

Good luck to all teams.

President vs Captain Day

It was close but the Captain’s team have defended their title and are the 2019 winners.

In the end the score was Captain’s Team 926, President’s team 908.

Speaking on behalf of his team, the Captain wished to thank all of his players on the many hours of dedicated practice they put in [at the pub] and praised the efforts of the gallant President’s team who gave it their best shot.

The overall winners were Patrick Paris & Colin Booth with 52 points.

The best Captain’s team score was by Lance Fredericks & Gary Harvey with 49 points (c/b), runners up Greg Seymour & Don Thompson 49 points.

The best President’s team score was by John Anthony & Larry Kent with 48 points, runners up Laurie Fogarty & Bruce Hammond with 47 points.

The overall lowest score was won by Geoff King  & Eric Nyholm 34 points.

The ball comp went to 45 points.

No Bull

There are many hazards on our course but Wayne Arnott found a new one last Saturday.

Here is a report from Col Booth, one of his playing partners,

“We got to the 16th and Wayne’s ball was on the fence line in play on the right hand side of the green, still a difficult shot with no back swing.

Wayne’s problem was compounded when the local massive bull [it looked like it had won all the Ribbons at the Royal Easter Show] wandered over and at one stage charged Wayne. It stopped just short of the fence and stayed there, stopping Wayne from playing a majestic chip shot and he had to abandoned the hole.

We all were quite amused by the set of circumstances”.

Wayne was apparently not that amused!

Members Ball and Trophy Accounts

The good news is that they have been updated and can be accessed on the ‘our golf’ website.

Hit the “$” icon. Don’t panic if it says a negative amount. The negative sign I assume means that is the amount the club owes you.

The bad news is that the gentleman from “SLICE” who imputed the amounts used January’s spreadsheet and not the most recent from February. This might mean that there are slight variations to the amount stated. The Jamberoo Office will check and update all accounts today.

Many members are concerned that they will lose their vouchers and balls if they don’t use them within 3 months. This won’t happen, use them for purchases in the shop, from our corporate supporters (see page 63 of the members program/handbook) or use them to reduce your annual membership levy of $570.

Visitors on the other hand have 3 months.

Slice Training Day

I know I play with a slice but that is not what I mean!

When you finish your comp round on Wednesday May 8, I will be available to help you enter the fourball team card. Having completed it once you will find it a pretty simple task. It is just a little different to what we are used to because in the past they were worked out manually.

Don’t Panic, we’ll work out how to do it together.

A new touch screen monitor has been purchased with the kind assistance of the Ladies Committee. It hasn’t arrived yet but after it is installed it should make the entering process easier.

This Week’s Results in Review

Winners on Wednesday were Bernie McGlinchey and Ron Chilby with 46 points. Ron tells me that he had to carry Bernie all the way to ensure they won the 2 Ball Best Ball Stableford. Bernie’s story is somewhat different saying that he played all the critical shots. Regardless they combined together well to record a good win. In the individual Tony Rodriguez was the winner in A grade, Chris Leckey continued on with his holiday form to win B Grade, and the two old masters, Lew Dare and Phil Lewis could only be separated by a countback in C grade. Keith Hales held on to win D grade despite a disaster on the 18th from near the green.

A big field contested the Anzac Day Medley Stableford. Perhaps the other players were held up by the march? Anyway Pete Francis (37 points) lost another shot in beating Wayne (no bull) Arnott who gained a shot. The Ladies Stableford was keenly contested on Tuesday with Cheryl Legge winning A division over Loretta Green and Robyn Gregson winning B division over the consistent Gail Rutledge.

On Easter Monday a reasonably sized field attended golf after the Easter Services and the winner was Chris Leckey who clearly is coming to grips with the right hand playing and left hand putting technique. Pete Munro played well for 2nd and was the clubhouse leader all day only being passed by Chris in the last group.

Enjoy your golf on our beautiful course.

Don’t forget to get that nine hole comp in with the Kingsford Nine – just $3 per player, available every day.
