Christmas News From the Course

The Staff and Board of Directors of Jamberoo Golf Club wish a very Merry Christmas and safe holiday season to all members and their families.

Jamberoo Member Brian O’Hare wins prestigious Journalism Award

Jamberoo member Brian O’Hare is not just the bane of his opponents in White Horse Cup Pennants but also a talented and well respected journalist and editor and founder of the ‘Australian Senior Golfer’ website.

Brian received the award for his feature report on Kym Olsen, the winner of the Australian Senior Amateur Championship in Adelaide in 2016 in which the Victorian golfer first revealed the ongoing battle he was having in dealing with serious depression issues and at the same time trying to remain competitive in elite senior golf.

The members of Jamberoo congratulate you.

Teachers’ Golf Day

Jamberoo Golf Club would like to congratulate the participants in the 2017 Teachers’ Golf Day which was held on our course last Thursday.

The day started under overcast skies with a light drizzle which slowly transformed into torrential rain, good for the course but not so good for golf. Quite a few battled on and were rewarded with clearing weather which enabled their rounds to be completed. There are reports that a hole-in-one was recorded by a player on the 13th hole but I have no other details to report.

We hope that you had a good day despite the weather and that you consider coming back next year where we promise the usual sunny skies and perfect Jamberoo weather.

Veteran’s Christmas Hams Day

Well played to all the winners, which means everybody I suppose, in the Veterans annual Christmas Hams Day held last Monday.  The big winners on the day were in A Grade Don Thompson with 40 Pts, Phil Hahn with 39 Pts,  Doug Perry with 38 Pts, John Pringle with 37 Pts on a countback over 5th Greg Seymour 37 Pts and Jeff Draper with 36 Pts (c/b)

In B Grade John Sutherland was the winner with a great 42 Pts, Athol Casey was second with 40 Pts, Les Hanigan 38 Pts, Geoff Evans 37 Pts (c/b) Norbert Beringer 37 Pts and John Ellsmore 36 Pts (c/b) took out the minor prizes.

A great day was had by all and Chris apparently only had to make one extra trip back home to pick up the hams!

Congratulations go to Peter Oldfield as the inaugural winner of the Barry Walker Shield.

Boxing Day

An individual stableford will be held on boxing day with a walk-up start.

Why not show off those new clubs that you got for Christmas to your mates and enjoy a round?

The tee will be available from 7 am to 9 am.

2017 Last Competition Round

The last competition round for 2017 will be held on Saturday 30th of December and will be a 4 person 6543 Countdown in recognition of the approaching New Year.

With this event the best score from the team is recorded for the first 6 holes, then the best 2 scores for the next 5 holes (7-11), then the best 3 scores for the next 4 holes (12-15) and finally all scores counted for the last three holes. The highest team tally wins the event.

If you cannot arrange a fourth team member then a 666 countdown will be played as a separate event for teams of three. The first 6 holes the best score out of the three counts, holes 7-12 two scores count and holes 13-18 all scores count.

This week’s results

Congratulations go to Tony Panecasio for his excellent 45 points in A Grade on Saturday. This equates to a par round, well played Tony. Greg Rodgers also celebrated Christmas early with his score of 42 points in B Grade to win by one from Brian Aboozaid. Matt Tedeschi took out third prize on a countback over the unlucky Eddie Cram who suffered with the same on Wednesday. Bob Wright managed a respectful 37 points which was good enough to win the C Grade prize. Warwick Drew held on for second on a countback. Bob Crooks easily won D grade with 40 points.

Hope to see you all on the course soon.
