Golf Illawarra Pennant Play cancelled for 5th March

Due to the state of the golf courses in the Illawarra District following the big wet this week, the Match Committee of Golf Illawarra have decided to cancel the round due to be played on Sunday. Each team is to receive one point unless they have a bye.

This means that our B Pennant team comes second in their division after finishing the season one point behind the Grange GC on 6 points. They will play the first placed team in the other division, the Links Shell Cove in the semi-final at Moss Vale on March 19.

Both White Horse Cup teams have also won their divisions and remain undefeated so far this season. They are due to play each other in the semi-finals at Moss Vale. Will the ‘Cowpats’ or the’A’ team (known as “The Flies” by the ‘pats) progress? Either way one Jamberoo team will get to defend the title.

The C Pennant have one more round to play at Jamberoo next Sunday against the Grange to determine who wins their division. The winner will play St George’s Basin, while second place will play The Links Shell Cove in the semi-finals at Moss Vale on March 19.

It promises to be a grand day for the club at Moss Vale with all 4 pennant teams playing and the two White Horse Cup teams meeting in a semi-final for the second successive year. Last year their match was tied!

Good luck to all, and go the ROO!

Charity Golf Day for Junior Diabetes Research

Make sure you put Thursday 23rd of March down in your diary for the playing of the ‘White Duck’ Cup. A 4 person Ambrose competition will be played on the day with a meal supplied at the bowling club after the game.

Get your team together and enter on the sheet in the golf shop. Ladies and Gents teams of 4 are both welcome and any solo player or smaller group will have a team arranged for them.

Come along for what promises to be a great day of golf at the club.

Be aware of where you are on the course

It has come to my notice that some are being overly eager to start their round and are crowding around the back and side of the first tee before they are called. This means that not only is it difficult for groups to move past on their way off the first and for others moving to the 5th but also that loud talking is occurring while others are swinging. Please be aware of where you are.

This week’s results

Competition play was severely restricted this week due to the big wet caused by the ‘east coast low’. This is despite the efforts of our greens staff who worked tirelessly in preparing the course for the Lady Veterans comp and Saturday’s Monthly Medal.

The Ladies were playing their annual charity day in aid of Ovarian Cancer Research in a 3 person Hartball event. Only 12 holes were possible for the 68 players with winners drawn out of the hat for fairness’s sake. Congratulations to the Ladies Committee for their efforts in supporting this very worthwhile charity.

The only other comp was on Wednesday where 72 men played the Drummond Golf Stableford. The big winner was Bruce Byers, playing off 14, with 43 points. I hope he enjoyed his day in B grade!

Bernie McG and Ron C both had 36 points with Bernie claiming 2nd prize on a countback in B grade. Bernie was overheard saying,”not even close” as he claimed victory over Ron.

Upcoming Events

Today’s cancelled monthly medal has been reset to be played on Saturday 18th March. It will replace the scheduled countdown team event.

The course is reasonably dry and if the rain stops in time then the Veterans will play their normal stableford competition on Monday. Don’t forget that these rounds count for the season-long Barry Walker Shield.

Next Saturday is a ‘One Grade Day’ stableford event with all players competing in a single nett grade for larger prizes. A best gross prize will also be contested.
