News from the Course

Temporary Local Rules affective from Saturday 7/1/2023 and until further notice.

PLAY THE BALL AS IT LIES in all areas of the course unless free relief is granted under a local rule or rule of golf.

Unmarked and marked GUR on the Course.

[Please note the modification]

Free relief is available from these abnormal conditions :

  1. Bare patches on fairways.
  2. Flood damaged areas on the 12th and 14th and 15th holes. You must follow the procedures outlined below using either Rules 16.1a or 16.1b.
  3. In the rough there are also some areas that are abnormal, with sand pits and wheel tracks from heavy motorised vehicles. Free relief is available from such areas but not from bare patches in the rough where you must play it as it lies.

16.1a:  Diagram 1 assumes the player is right-handed. Free relief is allowed for interference by an abnormal course condition (ACC), including an immovable obstruction, when the ball touches or lies in or on the condition (B1), or the condition interferes with the area of intended stance (B2) or swing.

The nearest point of complete relief for B1 is P1 and is very close to the condition.

For B2, the nearest point of complete relief is P2, and is farther from the condition as the stance has to be clear of the ACC.

16.1b:  In diagram 2, your reference point must be taken keeping the ball and hole in line.

Free relief is allowed when the ball is in the general area and there is interference by an abnormal course condition. The nearest point of complete relief should be identified, and a ball must be dropped in and come to rest in the relief area.

The relief area is one club-length from the reference point, is not nearer to the hole than the reference point and must be in the general area.

When taking relief, the player must take complete relief from all interference by the abnormal course condition.

You may play from the damaged area without relief if you wish of course.

The collapsed bank on the 16th

The collapsed bank has been blocked from entry and is marked as a yellow penalty area.

This area is to be treated as a no play zone. If your ball enters that area, then it is in the penalty area and a compulsory penalty drop must be taken using either, ‘Stroke-and-Distance Relief’ or ‘Back-On-the-Line Relief’.

You are not permitted to enter the cordoned off section at all for safety reasons even if your ball is visible.

Captain

Vale Lew Dare

It is with sadest tidings that I inform the members of Jamberoo Golf Club of the passing of long time member Lew Dare this morning after a prolonged fight with cancer.

Lew was dedicated to the club and a former Club Director. A talented golfer, Lew was the winner of the A Grade Gold medal in 2009 and 2010 and Mens Veterans Champion in 2013.

He will be sadly missed by many.

RIP Lew.

News from the Course

Wishing all a happy and prosperous New Year.

Course Care and Conditions in the Drought.

With the current drought it is imperative that all players carry and use sand to repair their divots in the fairway and rough. Try and repair two every hole.

As a way of protecting the fairways a new local rule has been introduced for play from the fairways.

Players have the option to tee up on fairways until further notice.

Please take advantage of this rule if your ball finishes in a very dry place on a fairway so as to protect any grass that is still there.

Hopefully this drought will end soon.

Some more Birthday rounds!

Golf Australia has rewarded some more of our golfers with extra reductions in their handicaps due to their excellent play over the Christmas break.

Congratulations to the following for their birthday rounds (the type that happen once a year).

  • Jacob Brookfield for his 42 points on Christmas Eve,
  • Jeff Wasson for his 43 points on Boxing Day,
  • Cheryl Smee for her 46 points on the 27th, giving her a further 2 shot reduction,
  • and Harry Osman for his 42 points on the 28th.

Well played to you all.

News from the Course.

The Staff and Directors of Jamberoo Golf Club wish you a safe and relaxing holiday season full of peace, joy and happiness.

Merry Christmas.

The new Rules of Golf will go into effect on 1 January 2023.

The 2023 edition of the Rules of Golf continues the modernisation process, with an emphasis on both inclusion and sustainability. For the first time, the modified Rules for players with disabilities have been fully incorporated into the playing rules without the need to adopt a local rule.  Several penalties have been relaxed and language has been clarified to help golfers at all levels of play.

Key changes include:

  • Modifications for Players with Disabilities: The modifications to the Rules for players with disabilities have been made part of the Rules and are in effect for all players who fall under the categories covered in Rule 25.
  • Handicap Usage in Stroke Play: With the continued growth of digital scoring following the adoption of the World Handicap System, players are no longer required to show their handicap on their scorecard in stroke play. The Committee will be responsible for calculating the player’s handicap strokes for the competition and using that to calculate the player’s net score.
  • Club Damaged During Round: The Rule has been amended to allow a player to replace a club that is damaged during a round, provided the player did not damage it through abuse.
  • Ball Moved by Natural Forces: A new Exception provides that a ball at rest must be replaced if it moves to another area of the course or comes to rest out of bounds after being dropped, placed or replaced.
  • Back-on-the-Line Relief Procedure: The back-on-the-line relief procedure, often used for penalty area and unplayable ball relief, has been simplified so that the player now drops their ball on the line, and the ball must come to rest within one club-length of where it is dropped.

Christmas Rounds

The scoring was hot on Wednesday. Congratulations to Brian Bennett and Al Thrower for their wonderful rounds of 45 points and 44 points respectively. The two best scores recorded at the club during the year.

Brian outshone the field with a brilliant 45 points. This was so good that Golf Australia rewarded Brian with a further two shot reduction in his handicap for his exceptional round.

One can say that Brian had a ‘Christmas ‘ round, the type that only come once a year!

Talking about ‘Christmas’ rounds, Al Thrower had one as well. Al scored a very nice 44 points to finish second on the day. Al was rewarded by an additional 1 shot off his handicap from Golf Australia for his exceptional round.

Well played to you both.

Bob Neilson

Today we celebrated the commraderie of our Vet members and Christmas. We hope you had a great day and enjoyed your golf, free bbq and low comp fee. A little reward for all of you.

2022 has been a difficult year compromised weatherwise with floods and now a drought. The thing that did not compromise was the fellowship and goodwill of our Veterans, with members enjoying competition with friends and their fellow vets on our beautiful course.

We look forward to 2023 with high hopes.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
