News from the Course

Wishing all a happy and prosperous New Year.

Course Care and Conditions in the Drought.

With the current drought it is imperative that all players carry and use sand to repair their divots in the fairway and rough. Try and repair two every hole.

As a way of protecting the fairways a new local rule has been introduced for play from the fairways.

Players have the option to tee up on fairways until further notice.

Please take advantage of this rule if your ball finishes in a very dry place on a fairway so as to protect any grass that is still there.

Hopefully this drought will end soon.

Some more Birthday rounds!

Golf Australia has rewarded some more of our golfers with extra reductions in their handicaps due to their excellent play over the Christmas break.

Congratulations to the following for their birthday rounds (the type that happen once a year).

  • Jacob Brookfield for his 42 points on Christmas Eve,
  • Jeff Wasson for his 43 points on Boxing Day,
  • Cheryl Smee for her 46 points on the 27th, giving her a further 2 shot reduction,
  • and Harry Osman for his 42 points on the 28th.

Well played to you all.

  1. Dave, sorry to be the bearer of sad news but I have been asked to pass on the news of another long time Jamberoo member. Lew DARE passed away Sunday morning. He will be sadly missed by many. RIP Lew.

    1. Very sad news Bruce. I had a lot of respect for Lew. A person always with the best interests of the club and its members at heart.
      Sadly missed.

  2. Now that the rain has returned can we please do away with the “tee up”. If we need to protect the course why not provide a section of artificial grass for those that need it and have 2 completions, one with such aids and one without.

  3. Hi Bruce..it would be great if we just returned to Normal Rules of golf…I personally have not teed up on fairways but do repair many other golfers divots and numerous pitch marks on greens. The green staff have done an amazing job under circumstances recently, and it is up to us as members to help out by doing our daily repairs.. I cannot understand how we can be handicapped properly when teeing up. Many people are misinterpreting our local rules that are in place also. Starting to become a bit confusing..is it flood damage or drought damage or both? Suggest a copy of daily local rules given to 1 person in each group.

  4. It is imperative that Members do their bit Ron as you suggest. As for proper handicapping, you might notice the PCC calcualtion on each comp. If the course plays easier than it should (a zero) then this number is used to affect the rating of the day. If the optional teeing up makes it easier then this PCC number counteracts that.
The rules in play are notified on the noticeboard and all players should read them before starting. Having said that I think what you suggest is a very good idea to stop the confusion that may have arisen because of the changing course conditions. A reset is indeed required to clear the page.
I can inform you and the members that we will be playing off the deck from tomorrow. I would like the staff to mark GUR areas to clarify where you get a free drop. I am not sure they have the time to do this, so I will try and do it myself tomorrow.
Thanks for your input Ron and Bruce.

  5. Hi Dave… Thank you for your response…
I think that clearly explains things a lot better( especially about the handicapping..when these rules are in place).
I was not aware of this and I think a lot of others were not either..
Happy golfing on our great course.

    1. Ron,
I have just changed the published article as I found on further investigation that a free drop is available to the side as well. See Rule 16.
