36 players enjoyed a marvelous day on the course today playing a 3 person Ambrose event in the annual Womens Vets Open Day followed by an excellent meal before the presentation of prizes. The weather was perfect and the greens in excellent condition, enjoyed by all competitors in this fun day.
A big thank you to Stu, Margaret and Lyn and all the other wonderful Ladies who helped to get the lunch 🥗 ready and to clean up afterwards. I really appreciate your help 👵🏌️♀️x
Be careful with the amount of run on the fairways!
OAKS AUTOMOTIVE owner, Steve Oppert, hit a magnificent drive last Saturday on the 18th straight down the middle. He was a little shocked and dismayed when he saw his ball pass the end of the fairway and run into the grassed hazard section just before Hyams Creek.
This is where it finished hanging precariously over the edge. Impossible to hit Steve was forced to take a penalty drop.
Mens Championships
The Saturday/Sunday format of this year’s championships has been well advertised since the 2023 programme was developed and published in December last year. It follows the same format that was successfully initiated in 2022.
Four rounds of stroke play is not everybody’s cup of tea and the Sunday games will attract those keen to test the metal of their game and play under the pressure of a championship. For those who can only play Saturdays or those out of the hunt for a championship then the third round will determine the winner of the ‘Jamberoo Plate’. This will take place using a stableford format. You should inform the starter as you pay your $20 comp fees.
One other condition that should be made clear is that there is no maximum score of 9 on any hole for the championships. Play it out until the ball is holed.
Monday Vets Fourball
A highly enjoyable day of golf utilising a shotgun start. After the game players got together over a sausage sandwich and a beer and many tall tales were told of unbelievable shots that miraculously were pulled off in a remarkable or extremely lucky manner. 66 of our Vets Members played and seemed to enjoy their golf and after golf activities with their Vets mates.
Congratulations to our winners on the day:
1st: George Goor & William Perry 47 pts 2nd: Col Booth & Geoff Reid 46 pts 3rd: Phil Gosling & Craig Foster 45 pts
NTP 3rd: John Clune (Links SC) 650 cm 7th: Ken Holt 69 cm 9th: Gavin Holt (Temora GC) 71 cm
D&P 8th: George Goor 5 cm
Women’s D&P 11th: No Winner
Supershot 13th: Al Thrower 357 cm
Balls to: 44 pts
Note: Some members today have informed me that results somehow appeared in Golflink for handicapping purposes. This was never an intended happening and it appears that our Competition Golf processing software has a glitch with regards to 2 ball events and was automatically sent to Golflink without our knowledge. An ‘AI’ thing perhaps?
We have checked every players handicap and only a few have had any adjustment at all and none that actually affected their daily handicap. Currently we are requesting Golflink to delete this round from all players records. It has yet to be determined if that is possible.
Playing golf at a club like Jamberoo is not just about lowering your handicap. Its also about developing new friendships and becoming a part of a special community of like-minded souls, prepared to assist and get involved.
Our friendly starters are volunteers and always happy to talk to you about that great experience you just had on the course.
A new member and just beginning your golf adventure? Why not try the Champagne 9 to learn the basics in a very friendly atmosphere. Saturdays from 11.30.
Paraphrasing the words of Bill and Ted – “Be excellent to each other and GOLF on!”

Volunteers to the ‘Fore’.
Last Friday saw another successful working bee with 20 well-prepared volunteers turning out to help maintain gardens on the front 9 holes. Many thanks to Gary Brickell for his kind donation of gardening gloves for the volunteers. The aim of these early working bees is to remove noxious weeds and mulch the garden beds to improve their appearance.
This month, groups focused on the gardens alongside the driveway and the tee areas of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 9th / 10th holes. Congratulations to everyone on their combined efforts on the day. In the next couple of months, more general maintenance tasks will be added, as well as the ongoing gardening activities.
The next scheduled working bee is Friday, 25th August. Work starts at 8.30am and finishes at 12.00 noon for a sausage sizzle lunch.
Hope to see you there!

Mens ECLECTIC
The Mens Eclectic commences Wednesday 2nd August and concludes Saturday the 4th of November.
Each year the club runs an eclectic competition across all individual competition rounds from August 2 to November 4. The lowest score made on each hole across these rounds is recorded, producing an 18 hole score, giving each player a Gross Eclectic score. Each players final handicap (half the one which the player plays their final stroke round on) is then used to determine a Net Eclectic score by having this handicap and taking it from the players Gross Eclectic score.
The Mens Championships commence next Saturday 5th of August and is a 72 hole tournament with round 2 played on Sunday 6th August, round 3 on Saturday 12th and the final round on Sunday August 13.
The booking page for next Sunday is now completely open and all early tee slots are available.
Apparently the early tee times were blocked when the sheet became live and this error has now been rectified. Those members wishing a tee time from 7am may delete the later time and rebook at their preferred early slot.
