Jamberoo Vets travel to Wellington

Jamberoo Veterans,“ WEEK of GOLF “at Wellington, N.S.W, 9th to 16th March, 2013.

27 members travelled to Wellington for the annual week of golf (where we have reciprocal rights).

This has been a feature of the Vet Golfers and their caravans for well over 20 years.

Due to recent rain the course was in excellent condition, but a little heavy underfoot, the weather was fine and very hot.

Winners of the Green Jackets were Lorraine Cram (for the third time! ) & John Edwards.

The nightly barbecues were well attended with John Childs providing the music & directing the singing.

The week was topped off by a great dinner at the golf club.

Congratulations to President Barry Walker, Col Shean ( member of the original caravan group),
John Childs & Stewie Potter for organizing a most enjoyable week.

2012 Jamberoo Valley Veterans Tournament

GOLFERS from across NSW and Queensland recently completed in the 2012 Jamberoo Valley Veterans Tournament.

Some 183 golfers from 49 clubs competed in what was another highly successful two-day event.

Once again tournament director Ian Boles and his team did a great job organising the event and greens staff, led by Greens Superintendent John Duncan, presented the course in immaculate condition.

The NSW Veteran Golf Association Trophy was conducted on the Thursday with the men’s winner B Plunknett from the Richmond Golf Club on 44 stableford points edging out Jamberoo’s Lance Fredericks on 42 points.

The ladies NSWVGA Trophy winner was L Naylor, also from Richmond, on 38 points in a count back from R Winter (Horizon).

All involved are to be congratulated on their efforts.

Jamberoo Surge

Jamberoo surged into contention in the prestigious  “TREVOR BELL SHIELD”.

Playing on the tough Grange Golf Course in a strong wind, the Jamberoo boys again showed what playing on a tight course like Jamberoo can do for your game when playing on other courses.

Playing against the other 7 golf clubs in the district, with Port Kembla the runaway leader, 32 points ahead of Jamberoo in 2nd place, the team excelled to come 1st on the day and cut Port’s overall lead to 17 points.

With 2 rounds left at Kiama and the Shellharbour Links, our boys are finding form at the right time.

Not to be content to be the winning team on the day, we also took 1st and 2nd in the individual scoring.

Brian O’Hare playing under enormous pressure in the last group of the day, managed to beat Mike Harris on a count back , both on 43 points.

Team Scores:- Brian O’Hare 43pts, Mike Harris 43pts, Warren Joannou 41pts, Ron Chilby 38pts, Ray Orr 38pts, Norm Bampton 37pts, Lawrie Craft 35pts, Athol Casey 32pts.

Using only the top 6 scores ,the team scored 240pts (Average 40pts).

Well done team!   Next match at Kiama 22nd October.

Jamberoo Valley Veterans Tournament 2010

TWO HUNDRED AND NINETEEN golfers from 62 clubs stretching from Gladstone in Queensland, Howlong on the Victoria border and Griffith out west, revelled in perfect conditions for two days at the 2010 Jamberoo Valley Veterans Tournament.

The course was in top shape for the tournament, held on the 25th and 26th of November, with added adornments of the NSW Veteran Golfers Association and the Jamberoo Club logos applied to the 8th and 6th holes by some very creative ground staff.

The NSW VGA Trophy was won by Brian Hedges from Nelson Bay with 40 stableford points on the Thursday. For full results see the main club website results section.
