Mens Eclectic Update.

Each year a free competition is held to determine the best eclectic score over a set period of time. This year the Eclectic started on August 2 and ends on November 5. The winner receives a voucher courtesy of Fredericks IGA at Jamberoo and their name on the permanent Shield at the club.

For each individual round that you play in this time the score you have on any hole is recorded and the best is used to determine the Jamberoo Eclectic Champion. The daily handicap a player uses on the last day is halved and becomes the ‘eclectic handicap’.

The top 12 players, with one month to go, and with their current handicap are :

PlayerHandicapGrossNett
Noel Laman45351
George Goor166052
Peter Francis206353
Ken Holt166153
Ron Hewson216453.5

Brian Carr226554
Les Skarratts156254.5
Paul Rodgers186455
Alan Jones126155
Chris Leckey106055

Interestingly, the hole that has ceded the least number of birdies is 14 with only one player recording a birdie there. The next two birdie tight holes are 1 and 18 with only 2 players on each scoring a birdie.

The hole that cedes the most birdies to players is the 7th with 41 players scoring a birdie. The 5th has 37 players recording a birdie and one with an eagle (good shot Ron).

Putting Contest.

In every monthly medal round players count and record the number of putts taken on every hole. Putts are considered those played from on the green. Even if you are one centimetre off the green it is not a putt for the purposes of this count.

This is a free contest and a ball is awarded to the winner each month.

In the Golden Putter Playoff held on the November Gold Medal Day, the monthly putting winners from the previous 12 months ( November to October) playoff with the player with the least number of putts winning the Golden Putter Trophy and getting their name on the Golden Putter Plaque.

Stupid and Dangerous Things to do while playing Golf.

Much effort is taken to make the playing of golf as safe as possible. Golfing etiquette is designed to keep players safe. Things like don’t hit if the group in front is too close, don’t stand too close to a player taking a swing, call out ‘fore’ for errant shots and safety tips for cart usage etc.

Unfortunately some still manage to ‘stuff up’.

Take Chris Goodwin for instance. Normally a very safe cart driver Chris had an issue with his cart last Wednesday week.

While searching for an errant ball of his playing partner, and obviously not paying close enough attention, Chris became stuck in the roots of the Camphor Laurel tree near the 6th green bridge. Getting out to see how to extricate himself with one foot still on the accelerator he tripped and became lodged under the cart as it moved and dragged him along beside it. Serious abrasions and contusions of his leg and arm resulted and has resulted in surgery to repair the damage. At the hospital everybody, including doctors, nurses, security, and orderlies, seem to know that he is the person that had ‘that’ golfing accident.

Chris requests that you please take care on the course or you too could suffer the embarassment.

Everybody at the club wish Chris a quick and speedy recovery.

PS: If you have an accident on the course please let the Office and starters know as they can record the incident for insurance purposes.

A quick note about handicapping for 4 ball matchplay.

Fourball Matchplay Handicaps.

In four-ball match play, the lowest marker reverts to scratch and gives strokes to the higher markers, eg player A is on a 14 handicap, B on 18, C on 22 and D on 42. A receives no strokes, B gets 4 strokes, C gets 8 strokes and D gets 28 strokes, irrespective of who is A’s partner.

Stokes are allocated according to the balanced distribution Matchplay index. Sometimes, like player D above, more than 18 strokes are given. In this case you continue on restarting the table with that player receiving more than one stroke on some holes.
