2017 Pennants

Nominations are being called for any member who would like to represent the club in 2017.

Jamberoo Golf Club has nominated 3 teams to play in the 2017 Golf Illawarra Pennants. We have entered a team in each of the B Pennant and C Pennant, and two in the White Horse Cup.

The B Pennant is for players with GA handicaps between 6.5 and 13.4. The C Pennant is for players with GA handicaps of 13.5 to 18.4. The White Horse Cup is a handicap matchplay pennant and as such any player must have a handicap less than 24 to play.

B Pennant and White Horse Cup will commence on Sunday, February 5 and proceed every Sunday until March 5; C Pennant will commence on Sunday February 5 and proceed every Sunday to March 12.

The semi-finals will be played at the Grange Golf Club on Sunday March 19, and the final will be held at Moss Vale Golf Club on Sunday March 26.

Players from JGC are asked to nominate for selection on the form inside the golf shop.

This will be available from Tuesday 27th of September. Nominations will close on Tuesday 2nd of November, after which no other nominations will be accepted (unless special circumstances can be shown). You will need to place your name, Golflink number, shirt size and contact phone number on the nomination form.

Teams will be announced in the ‘daily cow’ and on club noticeboards in early December 2016.

The B and C pennants play 5 games in each match and a team of 6/7 will be selected. White Horse Cup have 6 games in each match and 7/8 will be selected in each team.

All players selected to represent JGC are expected to:

  • play fairly and in a manner consistent with accepted golf etiquette
  • show respect to their opponent, the competition, and the host club
  • assist their team Captain in a positive way
  • help with meal preparations when their team hosts visiting clubs

The selection panel will consist of club captain Dave Ransom, experienced pennant player Arthur Bosanquet, the team captains and Match Committee member, Phil Hahn. They will follow strict guidelines as set out in the JGC Policy for Mens’ Pennant Teams in the selection of teams, so that a consistent approach can be taken.

Selection criteria for team players will include, but are not be limited to:

  • Players must be full financial members of JGC
  • Players must have supported JGC by playing regularly in JGC Saturday or Wednesday competitions during the preceding 12 months
  • Previous match-play experience and performance in Pennant competitions
  • Participation and performance in JGC match-play championships
  • Participation and performance in JGC stroke-play championships
  • Priority to lower handicap players (if all other criteria are similar) in B and C Pennant teams.
  • A full commitment to your team by being available for all matches and all finals. This is necessary as Golf Illawarra impose a qualification standard of matches played.
  • A commitment to your team to be available to assist as a caddy if you are not in the playing team for any given match.
  • Match-play selection trials if required
  • Every endeavour will be made to ensure that winning combinations are maintained in successful shields/competitions.
