News from the Course – 7th May

Australian Footgolf Championships and Saturday Golf

As you are undoubtedly aware Jamberoo will host the inaugural Australian Footgolf Championships from the 26th to 29th of May. The play will be from 11am each day except Saturday where it will start at 12.30pm.

The good news from a golfing standpoint is that the Saturday 28th of May competition will not be affected for morning players with tee times available from sunrise to 10am.

Why not play your round and then stay and see some of the best Australian and International footgolfers battle it out for the big prize money? Food and drink will be available with the bar open.

Ray Orr wins the Veterans Club Championship

Congratulations to popular member Ray Orr on winning the Veterans Club Championship with a score of 76 off the stick, three ahead of Bruce Byers, who shot a 79. This is a reward for persistence and dedication to practice and we all wish to congratulate Ray on his achievement.

Ray Orr - Vets Champion 2016

The nett champion is John Pringle who fired a 65 nett to win clearly by two shots from Doug Perry, Bruce Byers and Ray Orr.

The other prizes on the day were: in Division 1 John Pringle with 65 nett with 2nd place to Doug Perry with 67 nett (c/b) and in Division 2 the winner was Peter Young with 67 nett while 2nd place went to Darryl Back with 68 nett (c/b).

Interestingly, Peter is now considered by many to be a championship specialist after he also was a winner last year in the same event. Peter won his division by one after almost losing it all in the ‘Bermuda Triangle’! You know the 16th, 17th and 18th holes where good rounds often disappear without a trace!

Luckily Pete surfaced just long enough to drop a 5 metre downhill putt on the last to win by one.

Marilyn Wright wins the Ladies Club Championships

The ladies also completed their final round of the club championship and as predicted it was a close run affair in all divisions.

The new club champion is Marilyn Wright who withstood a strong challenge from 2014 champion Judi O’Brien and from the fast finishing 2015 champion Kay Brennan. This was Marilyn’s first win in the championship since 2005 and is a just reward for her consistent and excellent play over an extended period of time.

In B division, Robyn Gregson also recorded her first win in the championships since 2005. Robyn also won the Pat Norman Trophy for the best overall nett score over all divisions in the championships. In C division, Sue Paul was successful, winning by 2 from Lorraine Cram to claim her 4th C Division championship.

Championship Results:

Division 1 and Club Champion Marilyn Wright 278, Runner up, Judi O’Brien 279

Division 2 Champion: Robyn Gregson 309, Runner up, Cheryl Legge 315

Division 3 Champion: Sue Paul 336, Runner up, Lorraine Cram 338

  1. Congratulations to all winners this month.Especially Mr Ray Orr for his victory in the Vets. Great achievement especially after the practice you put in and the warm ups before teeing off…I think I should learn from this as my warm up consists of a meat pie and 1 practice swing on the 1st. Blow that’s food for thought….maybe I have to have a sausage roll as well..But seriously…Well done Ray…
