News from the course 31st December 2015

Happy New Year

May a happy New Year greet all Jamberoo members and their families in 2016!

Visitors attracted to Jamberoo Competitions

With the course recovering well from the drought and returning quickly to its usual beautiful, garden like condition, it has been noted that more visiting players are joining our competitions. With more prizes on offer than at their own clubs a competition round at Jamberoo is very attractive. Some have even commented that they are so impressed that they will join! Just call the golf shop on 4236 0404 to organise your next competition round.  Visitors are always welcome.

Membership is open if you are interested.

This week’s results

Boxing Day saw 52 golfers out on the course with their new Chrissie presents. A grade was won by Scott Hainsworth with 40 points from White Horse Cup teammate Mark Cassel who scored 38 points. Jeff Draper blitzed B grade with a score of 45 points with Paul O’Leary second on 40. In C/D Grade, Jason Aboozaid also scored a massive 45 points defeating Lance Fredericks and Karl Edlinger who both scored 40 points. Rodney Hourn was in sharp shooting mode winning both a nearest the pin and a drive and pitch prize on his way to 39 points.

Monday was the Xmas public holiday and 31 starters played in the comp. The winner was B Pennant player Tony Panecasio with 38 points on a countback over both the consistent Scott Hainsworth and club matchplay champ Boyd Sylvester.

Tuesday saw 21 Ladies compete in a stableford competition. A Grade was won by Shirley Walsh with an excellent 40 points, while B Grade was won by Lieve Stassen with  a great 41 points.20151206_171911

105 starters greeted starter Mike Harris on Wednesday for the last competition of 2015. With enough entries in each grade this enabled players to compete in 4 grades on the day. D Grade winner was Rob Mitchell with 37 points on a countback over Jeff O’Brien and John Deegan. C Grade was comfortably won by Stuart Irvine with 40 points over ‘fast’ Eddie Cram on 38 points. Glyn Godfrey and Bernie McGlinchey both scored 42 points in B grade with Glyn winning on a countback. Don Forster, Al Thomas and Ray Sheehan each scored 39 points with ‘the Don’ winning third on a countback. Bernie again defeated his friend and rival Ron Chilby in what must be said is fast becoming a common occurrence. Beware however Bernie, the handicap fairy is about and is closely looking at your recent form!

Match Committee news

The Match committee wants to ensure that in each individual competition there are 4 grades. Presently grades can only be formed if there are 10 or more players for each grade. This number was chosen so that the increased prize values on offer can be covered by the entry fees. In order to ensure we have 4 grades playing then it is proposed to lower the entry number to 4 players. However, Grade sizes between 4 and 9 would need to compete for a smaller first prize of $25. This will be trialed in the New Year and comments will be sought from players. A smaller ball comp pool may arise on some days if this suggestion is adopted.

How to Record  results in Fourball Best Ball Stableford comps

In the last 4BBB competition several cards were entered showing only the points scored on a hole rather than the actual score and the points. Failure to record a score risks a team being disqualified. To educate those who have not played many of these team competitions please observe the following template.
