Club Matchplay Update

Another great day on Saturday where the 77 competitors in the comp were surprised by how dry and good the conditions were on the course.

This allowed one of the semi-finals of the club Matchplay fourball championship to be played. The team of Peter Francis and Tony MacRae were up against Pat Paris and Chris Goodwin. Both teams have shown outstanding results in past years and had survived close matches in this year’s comp leading up to the semi-final. Plenty of Pennant experience was on show and a close match was expected.

On the day Pat and Chris started on fire and and maintained this form against their shell-shocked opponents to easily win their match 6/4 in what must be said was a grand performance.

In the top half of the draw the experienced team of Warwick Drew and Geoff O’Brien face off against the new combination of Col Booth and Phil Adams. The winner of that match will play Geoff Reynolds and Gary Hemus in the semi-final. Geoff and Gary accounted for last year’s champions, Richard Bremner and Peter Saunders, in a very tight see-sawing match.

Up to date results can be seen in the link below. Notice the number of close matches this year!

The Single Matchplay Round 2 is due to be completed today. In one section the games have moved to the semi-final stage where Tim Young has blitzed his opponents to date accounting for White Horse Cupper Shane Townsend, and last year’s champion Adrian Bell on the way. In the bottom half of the draw an interesting match between fellow C Pennant players Anthony Smith and Boyd Sylvester awaits in round 3.  Boyd has defeated Geoff Reynolds and last year’s finalist Ron Hewson, on his way to this match. Anthony survived a playoff against C Pennant captain Chris Leckey after winning the last 2 holes to progress.
