Fourball Matchplay
IN the Fourball Handicap Matchplay Championships the finalists have been decided after closely contested semi-finals.
In the first semi-final Paul Hazeltine and Tom Persson came up against Pat Paris and Chris Goodwin. Again the reliable team of Pat and Chris were able to fend off the challenge of the big-hitting A grade combination. Despite a flurry of birdies against them Chris and Pat held their nerve and were able to make those crucial putts when needed to win a very close encounter 2 up.
The other semi-final was even closer with the team of Richard Bremmer and Peter Saunders defeating Ron Hewson and Paul Rodgers in extra time on the 19th in what can only be described as a tense battle between two determined teams.
This leaves us with the tantalizing decider between the consistent Pat and Chris against the determined Richard and Peter. Anybody’s match I should think between these two evenly matched teams. Good luck to both teams.
Single Matchplay
IN the Single Matchplay we have reached the semi-finals with Paul Hazeltine soundly defeating Tony Panecasio 5/3 to reach this stage.
Ron Hewson outlasted Tom Zimmermann winning on the 18th while Adrian Bell defeated Tom Persson. Chris Goodwin was the lucky beneficiary of Wayne Griffith’s sore back and progresses as well.
So the semi-final matchups are: Paul in a tough match against Ron Hewson; and Adrian in an equally tough match against Chris. I have a feeling that the two B Pennant players are going to have to play well in these matches. Let’s face it; if they don’t then the longer markers will overwhelm them. Good luck to all four, may you all enjoy your matches.
New Scratch Matchplay Championship
ENTRIES are invited for the inaugural Scratch Matchplay Championship to be played in 2 divisions. All matches are to be played off the stick without the benefit of handicap.
These matches are ideal for low handicap players who feel they have little chance in handicap matchplay events and are an ideal preparation for those members wishing to represent the club in B and C Pennant teams in 2015.
“A” Division is for players with handicaps of 12 or less. “B” division is for players with handicaps of 13 or more.
The Championship will be conducted over October-November. Please do not enter if you are unavailable for any reason during this period. Late matches will result in forfeits.
Entries close on 18th of October. Please register on the sheet outside the golf shop. Entry fee is $5 payable before your first match.
