AN excellent field of forty two boys and girls teed up for the 2014 Junior Open on the tight Jamberoo Golf Club course.

The overcast cloudy day, perfect for golf, gradually changed.  The skies darkened and thunder in the area saw the officials call in the golfers and suspend play. Shelter was at a premium due to building work at the clubhouse, but, after a break of an hour or more and a sausage sandwich to fortify them, all golfers set out to complete their rounds.

The gross winner and 2014 Jamberoo Open Champion was Travis Fay representing the Russell Vale Club. Travis, playing off a 4 Handicap took the title with a gross score of 73. William Grimm, from the Kareela Club, carded a win in the Nett division with a score of 71.

The girls competition was under the stableford format with Selena Bosevski (Port Kembla), for the 4th year in a row, winning on a countback from Kirra Dunn from the Links Shell Cove. Both girls scored a commendable 35 points considering the weather and a break in play.

The higher handicap boys also contested in the stableford format. Nathan Harrington, Jamberoo, continuing his excellent club form took the contest with 38 points from Eamon Cupitt, Gerringong, on a countback.

Lachlan Harrington, Jamberoo not to be outdone by his brother, won the 9 hole competition with 51 strokes, pushing Laura McCombe, Jamberoo, into second place.
