2014 Championships Round 2 Report

ANOTHER perfect day on the course and after two rounds the scoring has been good with many players improving on last weekend’s scores to move into contention.

The outstanding round of the day came from James Thompson who fired a 76 off the stick (nett 60) to take over as outright leader in B grade and lead by 8 from Tim Young and 10 from Wayne Griffiths. James only required 19 putts in his outstanding round and reports are that he can blast the ball long as well. He will take some catching if he can maintain this form. There are many experienced players in B grade and James will need to keep firing if he is to hold off their challenge. James also leads the B grade nett by 12 with Tim, Wayne, Boyd Sylvester, Con Kiayias and Andrew Ball his main chasers.

Steve Rippon has increased his lead in A Grade after his second round 69. Steve is currently on 141 and leads Adrian Bell by 7 following his second round 72 and Paul Hazeltine is moving up after a 75 to sit in third place on 155. Mathew Bell (78), Tony Panecasio (77) and Tom Persson (74) have also moved into contention. In the nett, Adrian (134) leads by 6 from both Wayne Arnott and Tony Panecasio. Matthew Bell, Pete Munro and Scott Hainsworth are a further shot back on 141.

In C Grade Paul Rogers fired an 88 to take over the lead from Phillip Hellmund 179 to 181. Tim Condon, 185, and Phil Adams 186 and Ron Hewson 187 are also well placed to make a challenge. In the nett Phillip has reversed it and leads Paul by 2, 135 to 137. Phil Adams,142, Ron Hewson, 143, Phillip Gosling 144, and Jaimie Killmore 144 are also in good positions to mount that charge.

Unfortunately two of the leading players in C Grade have been disqualified after failing to sign their cards so please take care so that this simple clerical error doesn’t ruin any more people’s hopes. Markers please check that both signatures are on the card before handing it in.

Club Championship Final Round seeded draw

Don’t forget that the top eight in each grade will be playing in the seeded section of the draw in the last round. After round three a list will be published in The Daily Cow and on the notice boards (and with the starter) informing all of their final position.

By all means book into your usual spot on the booking sheet this Wednesday but be aware that if you qualify in the top eight in your grade then you will be moved to the seeded section for this day.  If you qualify then you must play in this section if you wish to win the club championship or nett prizes. Those who don’t qualify in the top eight are still playing in the championship and have a chance to win as well.

Ladies will be playing a stableford comp for the last two Saturdays.

We at the club are looking forward to this exciting new challenge and we wish all competitors good luck over the concluding 36 holes.

  1. Hi there, must be a new member in C Grade…Paul Rogers…..I thought it was Paul Rodgers leading C Grade…. must have been a simple clerical error eh…LOL. Any how good luck to Paul Rodgers and the rest of the participants in the coming rounds of the championships.

  2. Oops. We all can make simple clerical errors, the trick is not to make it at the end of the round! Anyway, this time I think spell-checker changed it automatically. How is that for an excuse? Thanks for your comment Mr P Rooster, good to see somebody is reading my midnight scratchings! Good luck to everybody over the last 36 holes, hope you can make the top eight.
    Now how does that go again……R O D G E R S?
