News from the Course – April 2014

JGC LOGO 300“A” Graders have a field day on Easter Monday

Easter Monday saw the single figure golfers come to the fore when they dominated the comp placings and top ten. Pete Munro came out on top with 39 points from Tom Persson 38 points on a countback from Paul Hazeltine and Ray Orr, with Jarrod Gehrmann close behind on 36 points. Only Lance Fredericks, of the two-digit players was able to stop the single-figure dominance.

Les Hanigan sees the light

Popular afternoon player and dedicated leftie, Les Hannigan, was seen on Wednesday 23rd hitting a right–handed shot on the 12th. Playing partners were wondering if Les had had a revelation and decided to play the right way around.  In reality he was up against a tree and used the back of his 3 iron to smash his ball over 100 metres back into play. Les confirmed later that he indeed does everything, except hit a ball, right-handed.

Whinge and win

Fresh from his gigantic aggregate fourball score with John Hol last month, Ray Orr was at it again in the ambrose, being a member of the winning team. Ray has in the meantime placed a couple of times in club competitions between these wins to be clearly in form. This despite rumours that he was previously heard complaining that he hadn’t placed in a comp for 6 months. With four placings in the last month I’m sure Ray has changed his story! (Give the man a jam donut).

Wednesday Stroke Round

Good to see Bernie McGlinchey and Joe Drehsen take out division 1 and division 2 respectively during the Just Bathrooms Mystery nine stroke round on Wednesday 16th of April. The course was playing very difficult on the day with the DSR being 69 with only Joe being able to shoot under nett 67.

Keno Mixed Fourball

Well what can I say! The weather gods have interfered again and the Keno mixed fourball has been postponed until 18th of May. We tried to get it on earlier but solid social bookings, mothers’ day and Ladies tournaments forced us to this later date.

It will be a very busy time for our lady members with the Jamberoo Ladies Open Tournament to be played on Monday and Tuesday April 28 and 29 and the Jamberoo mixed Open to be played on Sunday 25th of May closely followed by the Ladies Club Championship starting the following Tuesday.

The men’s Keno 4 ball round will be played on Saturday May 10 by the way.
