Sunday Pennants – 18 Feb

A big day.

reports by team Captains, Larry Kent, Chris Leckey, Don Thompson and Dave Ransom.

A big day on the course today saw all 4 of our teams involved.

The C Pennant were playing at home against the Links Shell Cove in a very important game. The Links prevailed in an upset, 3 matches to 2.

Best for Jamberoo were Bob Neilson, who won 3/2 and Ken Bradley, who won 4/3. Les Skarratts lost on the 18th as did Tom Zimmermann. Alan Jones succumbed on the 17th.

A very close match by two very evenly matched teams. Next week we play the Links again, this time at their home course.

The B Pennant were playing the strong Moss Vale club at Gerringong. The final result being a 2.5 matches each draw.

Lee Hayward won 4/3, and Joel Mc Intosh won 2/1 in very good performances. Chris Leckey managed to square his match at number 1 to ensure the draw.

John Anthony and Anthony Smith both went down in their matches 6/5 and 1 down repectively.

This was an important result and keeps the B Pennant’s chances alive in their quest to make the semis.

In the White Horse Cup both of our teams had wins.

The section 2 team, playing at Port Kembla, were successful 4 matches to 3 against Shoalhaven Heads 2.

Unfortunately one of ‘Heads’ players had to pull out before play giving us a free win in that match. The rest of the results were very close with two matches ending all square on 18. Well done to both Phil Gosling and Stef Tinworth for withstanding the pressure after both of their opponents forced the issue holing long putts on 18. Both Stef and Phil manged to 2 putt to see the team home.

Andrew Ransom won his match 4/2 and Peter Francis won 3/1. Peter Young was the beneficiary of the withdawal for a win for the team. Matt Tedeschi was attacked and stung by both a wasp and his opponent. An antihistamin solved one issue but didn’t stop the other, Matt going down 5/4 with his opponent playing a round under par. Club and Pennant sponsor, Steve Oppert, lost 2/1 against a wily opponent who cleverly plotted his way around the course.

The section 4 team playing at home were able to account for the visitors, Shoalhaven Heads 1, 6.5 matches to 0.5 of a match. Great wins were recorded by John Auguston, 5/3, Peter Hackett 5/3, Matt Ross 3/1, Warren Joannou 4/3, Leon Polestico 5/4, and Rob Maclean 9/7. Pat Paris squared his match.

This was the team’s best performance of the year.

Club Captain, Larry Kent and team Captain Don Thompson would like to greatly thank the masterful Renato Franciskovic for his help today cooking the after game meal for our visitors. A true club man.

As always the club would like to thank our main Sponsor Oaks Automotive and ball sponsor Drummond Golf Shellharbour.

Good luck teams in our next matches.
