News from Jamberoo GC

Jamberoo players at the Worrigee Festival of Golf.

Jamberoo was well represented at the Festival of Golf held at Worrigee Links. News is that our players “cleaned up”. Here is a photo of our succesful team.

Next Monday for the Vets sees a clash with the last round of the Trevor Bell Shield at The Grange and with the playing of the last of our ‘catch-up’ shotgun start ambrose events.

The Trevor Bell Shield players have expressed a desire to be part of the Monday club event and after game bbq and drinks. Of course the winning of the Trevor Bell Shield takes precedence for our gallant team who currently sit in 2nd spot.

Unfortunately with 40+ players already registered to play and the course booked, it is too late to change.

The Monday shotgun start and BBQ will run and our TBS players will make a comeback and win the Shield we pray.

All Jamberoo Vets will be 100% behind our team.

There is one more Vets Shotgun start before Xmas and all of us can join in then.

Greens Committee Report.

Last Wednesday morning saw the October Greens Committee meeting.

Greenkeeper Nick Goodger made note that we received 52 mm for September (153 mm last September); 23.5 mm so far this October. It’s relatively dry, but recent rain is encouraging growth. The new blower has arrived and is a vast improvement on the old broken unit.

Thanks to volunteers. Good job done.

Thanks to Gary Brickell and Larry Kent for organising new hazard rope on16th.

A few irrigation leaks have been found; some have been repaired with some minor ones still to do.

The new hole changer is very good and improving putting conditions around holes.

The greenstaff focus will be on mowing now – grass is growing.

Working Bee planning, fairway condition, Riparian zones along waterways and slippery bridges were discussed.

For player safety it is requested that players call-up on all par 3s.

In the near future it is envisaged that carts be allowed across the 5th hole bridge. Before this can happen the rockery across the bridge to the sixth tee will need some remediation so that cart clearance is possible. Carts would be allowed to travel behind the green to access this bridge. Please do not drive carts across the bridge until the all clear has been given.

Early groups on Wed/Sat tend to hit off early, which causes problems for the ground staff. Saturday is worst.

Players are reminded that early groups are to start off at their allocated tee time and not beforehand.

Mens Foursomes Championship.

This Saturday sees the playing of the 2023 Mens Foursomes Championship.

In a break from tradition the event will be held on a Saturday over 18 holes. The team with the best gross score will be called Foursomes Champions and have their names entered on the club honour boards and permanent trophy. In the event of a tie a playoff will be required.

The daily competition will be based on nett results.

For those players without a partner on the day a stableford will be conducted in a medley event with our female players and unmatched visitors. [###Please note the change from ‘stroke’ as advised on the flyer]

In a foursome, golfers compete in teams of two, using only one ball per team, and take it in turns to hit shots until the hole is completed. In this style of play, the team with the fewest number of shots wins.
For each team of two, members are expected to alternate who tees off. For example, Player 1 will tee off on odd-numbered holes and Player 2 will tee off on even-numbered holes.
Alternate shot is a very common name for the foursomes format and it is played in both the Ryder and Presidents Cups.

It is best not to apologise when you hit your shot under a tree or into a hazard ! Sour words have be known to follow such an apology.
