News from the Course

Course to Remain Closed

Improving weather has raised our hopes of play but unfortunately the course is still in a very muddy condition. The greens have been cleared of mud but much of the rest of the course is still unplayable.

Mud being washed off our greens.

Much work and drying is needed and the course will be closed certainly on Monday and Tuesday. Another inspection will be made on Monday.

Further news will be published as it becomes available.

Magpies are Netted

Not all golf was cancelled this weekend in the Illawarra. The White Horse Cup Magpies were able to play their Pennant game at St Georges Basin.

The course was naturally very wet and the fairways and rough uncut but play went ahead anyway.

Our team started well and at the halfway mark led 4.5 to 2.5.

Unfortunately the Russell Vale team were able to stage a comeback and in the end finished in front 5 – 2.

Captain Phil Gosling reports,

“After quite a successful front nine, the heavy going and forever looking for lost balls even in the middle of the fairway, drained the enthusiasm out of the Jamberoo players”.

The results were:

Ken Bradley lost 3&2

Alan Jones lost 4&2

Ross Graham lost 2 up

Ken Holt won 6&5

Jeff Draper won 4&3

Don Thompson lost 5&4

Peter Young lost 2&1

This makes it hard for the Magpies to progress to the semi-finals and they will need to win next week and hope that Port Kembla can take care of Russell Vale in the last round at Wollongong.
