Championships round 1 Wrap

Rare Bird Spotted at Jamberoo

A few eagles have been spotted at Jamberoo recently, one yesterday even descended onto the 10th green.

Congratulations to Tom Zimmermann who after laying up short of the Hyam’s Creek managed to hit a pure three wood straight into the hole for that eagle!

Meanwhile some others were not as fortunate….

Playing the 17th Dan Adams was travelling quite well until …..

Maybe this was what the eagle was searching for!!

Get there on time

John Hol explained to his mates that he had to hit off early on Saturday so that he wouldn’t be late for a funeral.

The funeral is on Wednesday. I think he will make it there on time!!

Round 1 in Review

The Championships have commenced and round one had it all, great golf, threatening weather and first round nerves aplenty.

The course, now almost completely recovered from the greens renovations, was looking fantastic and in wonderful shape. Some members think the best in living memory. This is due entirely to our hard-working and dedicated greenstaff who have earned the praise of the members.

In A grade, Steve Rippon, now fully recovered from his debilitating illnesses of the previous 12 months, fired a sensational 64 off the stick to take the first round lead. Wayne Arnott with 72 and Tony Rodriguez with 75 also played well.

In B grade, Brian Aboozaid played a terrific round to not only lead the nett by 3  but also the gross with a fine 78. Hans Kaer is next best with an 80, followed by Graham Carroll on 84 along with John Anthony and Chris Leckey.

In C Grade, Geoff Boxsell leads the nett by 5 after a sensational round of 61. Vince Byrnes leads the gross with an 89, with Jeffrey Hammersley and Gary Hemus next on 90. John Hol, Paul Tucker and Brett Fielding follow closely with 91 and Geoff Boxsell, Pete Wheatley, Laurie Fogarty and Al Thrower are also in the hunt with 92.

The rest of us with have to lift our games if we are to be factors.

Don’t forget that if you didn’t play round 1 then you can still win the second round event.

Good luck to all.
