Appeal For Volunteers

A recent survey of our membership has revealed that quite a number of our members would be happy to contribute some time at the club in a volunteer capacity.  Volunteering is a very self-satisfying means of contributing to the betterment of our club and course and there are many different forms such service can take.

Our club has been built on the initial efforts of a small band of volunteers and that community spirit has continued throughout the life of Jamberoo Golf Club.  The community spirit and team environment created by that volunteer effort helps make Jamberoo the friendly, happy and appealing organization that we all love.

Volunteers contribute in many aspects to the ongoing operation, management, and maintenance of the course, its facilities and services.  The vast majority of our members are retired and while I can in retirement relate to earlier in life hearing retired people say “I was never this busy when I was working” I am sure there are many members who could provide some volunteer service to the club.

To follow up on our survey results the Board would like to establish a register of the skills, qualifications and experience held by members who may be able to assist the club in the many and various forms of volunteer opportunities that arise from time to time.  You may not want to commit time on an on going basis to such things as running the golf shop, maintaining a garden, or serving on the Board, but we frequently have projects to undertake that are one off events and may need manpower, specialized skills, professional guidance or oversight.

As a guide:

* We are looking to establish a team of RSA (Responsible Service of Alcohol) trained volunteers who can rotate through golf days to keep our bar open as a revenue generating initiative;

* We will need to establish a team of volunteers who can assist in the running of a weekly Footgolf competition as a revenue generating initiative that would also involve bar sales;

* Lance Fredericks has accepted a request to “formally” take on the role of volunteer projects coordinator either working with greens staff or as independent projects and there are a number of these where both specialized skills (e.g. boilermaker) and manpower assistance (e.g. painting) may be required.  In the immediate future we have a bridge to repair utilizing one of two semi-trailer bodies as the sub structure, we have a donated shed that needs to be erected in the works compound, and there is a myriad of smaller projects where members could potentially contribute skills or labour.

*  Our ladies are, with the involvement of our Professional Jim Butt, running a number of beginner golf clinics and we need volunteers pre-clinic to distribute flyers, or post-clinic to play some introductory support rounds with these new beginner golfers;

*  We also use volunteers to help with maintenance of roughs and fairways (mowing) particularly in the summer months or if greens staff have other projects underway;

*  The Board has been unsuccessful in the past in applying for grants. Perhaps you have experience in that area or exceptional written communication skills that could be utilized to enhance our chances of success.

A Register will be kept in the Golf Shop and the Board would greatly appreciate members detailing their skills, qualifications or experience, and identification of potential areas in which they may be able to assist our club

Thank you for your support.
