Ladies Pennants
Both of our Ladies Pennant teams hit the course last Monday at Port Kembla Golf Club.
The Gold Pennant team were playing Highlands and were looking to consolidate after their opening win in the competition two weeks ago. The news was good with the team winning a tight struggle 3.5 to 1.5.
The Silver Pennant were playing against the home team and despite this added handicap put in a strong showing. Unfortunately the home course advantage proved too much of a hurdle to overcome and our team lost 3-2 in a very close match.
Next week the teams travel down the coast with the Silver Pennant playing Sussex Inlet at St Georges Basin and the Gold’s playing Russell Vale at Shoalhaven Heads.

Match Play Championships
Registrations are now being taken for the individual Matchplay championships which are set to commence in June. The last day for entry is May 31 so don’t be late as no late entries will be accepted.
The entry form is in the golf shop.
Entries for the fourball matchplay are scheduled to be taken in June.

Rules Quiz
On the 13th green last Wednesday Dave had a difficult 2 metre putt for par down the hill. On his line-of-putt there were several scuff and sprig marks. Is Dave entitled to pat down these marks before he makes his putt?

Hole of the Week
The fifteenth hole is the last of the par threes on the course and in the garden near the tee lives a beautiful Gymea Lily plant giving the hole its name.
At 200 metres this par 3 has plenty of length and it also possesses the largest of the par three greens on the course with many slopes and dales. Make sure you take the right club or face a very difficult 2 putt.
Out of bounds all along the right side intimidates and trees and pond on the left cause trouble as well. This is a good test for all golfers at any level. It is a par 4 for the ladies.
Latest Results
After last Saturday’s wet and wild conditions and the onset of wintry conditions the course has bounced back and competitions were again well supported by the members.
Jamberoo Golf Club welcomed the playing of the Johnny Warren Charity Golf day on Thursday and trust that all competitors had an enjoyable day on our course.
Tuesday saw the playing of a 3 person countdown in the Ladies competition and the team of Pam Middlebrook, Marie Farrant and Judi O’Brien were successful winning with a good score of 67 points in the team format. Second place went to Dell Brand, Cheryl Legge and Rhonda McKinley with 64.
On Wednesday the ‘Just Bathrooms Mystery Nine’ was contested during the stroke round with the winner being John Anthony, the owner of Just Bathrooms. Clearly John was raising the bar in what is needed to win his prize. The stroke competition of the day was played in three grades with Tony Panecasio winning A/B division with 68 nett one less than George Goor, Tony Rodriguez and John Brand. Al Thrower won C grade with a 66 one less than John Childs. D grade was won by Bob Crooks with a 69 one less than Lindsay Wiseman and Pat Travers. The course was playing tough with only 1 person able to break his handicap on the day despite playing from the shorter white course.
On Saturday the popular Par format was adopted for the competition. A grade winner was Tom Zimmermann with a great score of +6, B grade saw Larry Kent successful with a score of +7 with Shane Townsend taking second prize with +5. C Grade winner was Al Thrower with +6 with Eric Nyholm taking second on +2, and D Grade winner was John Turner with -2. Ladies winner was Jenelle Anderson with -2 on a countback from Margaret Cook and Marlene Trethowan.
Rules Quiz answer: [Rule 16.1] Dave is not allowed to tap down scuff marks or sprig marks before he putts if they are on his line-of-putt. He cannot ask a playing companion to tap them down either. He can repair pitch marks and remove loose impediments but if he had touched his line with his hand or putter head then he would have been penalised 2 shots.
He should of course repair the unevenness after he has completed his putting [which he did].

Of course it would be better if everybody took care around the hole and repaired any marks that they make when they make them. Just look back and see if you have left a trace! Tap it down and smooth it then. Would you want to putt over a bumpy section of that green yourself where the slightest deviation means the ball goes off-line, misses the hole and races way past the hole?
From Golf Australia, “interestingly with the new rules being introduced next January you will then be allowed to tap down any imperfection on your line. Relaxed putting green rules: There will be no penalty if a ball played from the putting green hits an unattended flagstick in the hole; players may putt without having the flagstick attended or removed. Players may repair spike marks and other damage made by shoes, animal damage and other damage on the putting green and there is no penalty for merely touching the line of putt”.
