Week 4 Pennant Reports

With all teams in the field and playing well we were hopeful of a good weekend.

Then came the rain.

The B Pennant suffered a narrow loss, the C Pennant were washed out without a shot being played, the White Horse Cup Division 1 cowpats had the match abandoned after 9 holes and the White Horse Cup Division 3 Flies were beaten convincingly.

Russell Vale Golf Course has proven to be an unlucky venue for us this year with 3 matches out of 3 lost there this season including both loses on Sunday.

Here are the team captains’ reports:

B Pennant @ Russell Vale

Jamberoo 1.5 lost to Links Shell Cove 3.5

Jamberoo B Pennants travelled to a very wet and windy Russell Vale to take on Shell Cove. Conditions were very tough with wet grips , wind gusts and rain the order of the day Playing at 5, Pat Paris found an opponent as consistent as himself. After a see sawing battle Pat went down 3/2.

John Paul jumped to an early lead and held it until the 18th where he squared his match.

Pete Munro started slowly giving up a sizeable lead and despite finding his mojo couldn’t peg back the start in the conditions going down 5/3.

TP playing at 2 watched his opponent make a hole in one on the first. In what was a tight match, putting proved the difference with TP going down 2/1.

No 1 Jarrod Gehrmann continued his great form mastering the conditions in a strong 5/3 win.

We need to win our last two matches and see how other results pan out.

C Pennant vs St George’s Basin @ St George’s Basin

Match abandoned before the first ball was hit. Despite not playing, this gives the ‘Sharks’ a valuable point away from home and could be decisive come finals time.

White Horse Cup Flies vs Highlands @ Russell Vale

Flies 1 lost to Highlands 5

Very tough conditions got the better of us all, we all started badly and were behind in each match after 9 holes, a real struggle. The Highlands boys continued on with it and only Brent McDonald was able to withstand the conditions and record a great win on the 18th.

Perhaps the two week break between games was a factor as well.

Number 1 Ken Bradley lost 3/2, Brian Nicoll lost 5/3, Geoff Wilson lost 4/3, Larry Kent lost 4/3, Pete Young lost 5/3 and Brent McDonald did the team proud winning 1 up.

The team are determined to finish the season strongly and we will pick up for sure.

White Horse Cup ‘cowpats’ vs Moss Vale @ Bowral

The Rubicon River Burst its banks on Sunday creating chaos at Bowral. The Cowpats had the upper hand in the early stages of the ‘Battle of Macquarie Pass’ which was subsequently abandoned to our disappointment.

Julius (aka Dave Ransom) was kept busy in controlling his Chariot and had difficulty handing the horses who were frightened by the storm and lighting leading Julius a merry chase into creeks and trees whilst guiding  and directing the troops. Julius even made sacrifice to the Sun God Apollo and at one stage this looked like succeeding.

Maximus (aka Chris Goodwin) had made the ultimate sacrifice the day before by fasting to appease Bacchus the God of Wine.

The ‘wild thing’ (aka Matt Tedeschi) had been unleashed and was firing, impervious to the rain, not even bothering with an umbrella.

The Cowpats face additional pressure but have the upper hand in next week’s ‘Battle of Jamberoo Pass’ where a win is essential to maintain the Senates pleasure.
