Men’s Pennants 2018

Some of our stars in previous years

Jamberoo Golf Club has entered 4 teams into the 2018 Illawarra Pennant competition. After last year’s grand performance where we almost won all the Pennants we entered only to be thwarted in the finals in very close matches, expectations are high and the club is looking forward to the upcoming season.

The B pennant squad (handicaps greater than 5.5) start their season on January 28 at home with a bye. Tony Panecasio leads the team with hopes to improve on last season’s second place finish. The following players will represent the club in the B Pennant, Scott Hainsworth, Jarrod Gehrmann, John Paul, Patrick Paris, Pete Munro and Ray Orr.

Jason was not available for selection this year.

The C Pennant squad (handicaps greater than 12.5) start their season on February 4 with a home game against St George’s Basin and also are hoping to take that next step and do well in this year’s Pennant. Captain Chris Leckey leads the team with the following players representing the club, Tom Zimmermann, Wayne Griffiths, Andrew Ball, Boyd Sylvester and Tim Young .

The White Horse Cup is a handicap Matchplay event and we again have two teams entered in this year’s competition, the ‘Cowpats’ and the ‘Flies’. There have been several retirements and promotions from last year’s teams so quite a few new faces will make their debut this year.

The ‘Cowpats’ are still smarting from their defeat at the hands of Kiama in last year’s final which stopped them winning 3 in a row. Captain Col Booth has developed new tactics with the motto “ad victorium” a major part in his planning. The club will be represented in the Cowpats by Chris Goodwin, Shane Townsend, Arthur Bosanquet, Peter Francis, Dave Ransom, Matt Tedeschi and Brent McDonald.

The ‘Flies’ also performed admirably last season only losing in a playoff to the cowpats in the semi-final. Captain Larry Kent returns from injury and leads a very impressive side bristling with new talent. The representatives from the flies are, Don Thompson, Geoff Wilson, Ken Bradley, Brian Nicoll, Phil Gosling and Peter Young.
