December – News From the Course

Seasons Greeting from your Club

The staff and Board of Jamberoo Golf Club wish all members a Merry Christmas and give our sincere thanks for your support over 2017 and look forward to your continued involvement in the New Year.

Xmas tree

‘Sea-Side and Valley Tournament’ a great success

Congratulations to the organising committee, especially the Jamberoo representatives, Lance Fredericks, Chris Goodwin and Stuart Potter, for the impressively run tournament held at Jamberoo and Kiama Golf Clubs this week.

Jamberoo held competitions on Monday and Friday and these were well supported by the men and lady veteran golfers with over 100 playing each day.

Preferred Lies Re-instated

The match committee were expecting more growth on the fairways than actually occurred after the rain of the last few weeks. Most members can testify that a great improvement happened but there are still quite a few patches where growth has not been satisfactory and not suitable to play as it lies. The 5th and parts of the 18th holes in particular are still quite bare.

Consequently, on the advice of the greenkeeper, it has been decided to keep 15 cm preferred lies on all fairways until the new year at least.

Continue to look at the notice board for further updates on course conditions and local rules.

2017 Hams Day

Image result for ham

On Saturday December 9 the annual Jamberoo Golf Club Hams Day will be contested at the club. This is a closed event and is only open to members of Jamberoo Golf Club although visitors can play in the daily comp. The winners in each grade will win a full ham while runners up and third will win half hams.

If you have won a ham then you must be at the club on Tuesday December 12 at 8 am to collect your prize.

This also applies to those lady members who have won hams in earlier events on November 21. In further news, some ladies won a turkey on this day and it has been decided to replace the turkey with a half ham.

Those volunteer members who are to receive hams must also be present on the day to collect your ham from the club.

As the club has no storage facilities all hams must be collected on the day.

Presentation Day

I hope to see you tomorrow at the annual Presentation Day which commences at 4.30pm.

If you are yet to pay for your ticket or indeed failed to get one please come with your $25. You will be most welcome.

Don’t forget to bring some change so that you can enter the chipping contest, $2 a shot or 3 for $5  .

See you at the club tomorrow.

This week’s results

Another busy week on the course with veteran golfers playing the Seaside and Valley tournament on Monday and Friday and visiting golfers from the Highlands playing on Thursday. We hope all visitors enjoyed their day at our beautiful course.

Arthur Bosanquet thought he had the A grade won on Wednesday when he had 40 points including 24 on the back nine. Little did he know that Tony Rodriguez matched Arthur’s score almost exactly. Applying the 3rd phase of the Australian countback system saw Tony take the prize. Arthur made up for it however on Saturday where he claimed the A grade monthly medal and the voucher from Golf Mart this time winning on a countback over the unlucky Ian Bradburn.

B Grade scoring was fantastic on Saturday with 3 players shooting nett 62. Paul Rodgers winning on a countback over Terry Murphy and Phil Hellmund.

Bob Small was all smiles on Saturday after he shot the lights out recording an incredible nett 57 in the C grade monthly medal. Vince Brynes was confident he had a chance with his nett 61 but had to settle for second prize. D grade scores were close as well with Bob Weir sneaking past everybody to win by one with his nett 64,

Congratulations to all this week’s winners.
