News From the Course 25 November

Pete Munro pictured here with Lance accepting the 2014 Gold Medal. He was successful again today with a brilliant 61 nett.

Gold Medal Playoff Day

After last week’s bad weather caused a postponement of the Gold Medal round, today the skies were clear and the course in fine condition. The scoring was fantastic with many low scores recorded.

In A Grade all the finalists seemed to break their handicap but in the end Pete Munro ran away with the event with a fine nett 61 off his 10 handicap.

B Grade was much closer with two players shooting nett 60. Andrew Ball was first in with a fine 78 off the stick, but this proved to be just not enough as Chris Goodwin fired a personal best 76 to match Andrew with nett 60. Using the Australian Countback System Chris was determined the winner.

C Grade was also very close with Terry Murphy shooting a nett 67 and Phil Lewis 68. Michael Burton however fired a 66 to take out the medal.

In D Grade John Corr fired a great nett 64 to easily win the Gold Medal.

Congratulations to the 2017 Gold Medalists.

A Grade Pete Munro

B Grade Chris Goodwin 60

C Grade Michael Burton

D Grade John Corr

Their Gold Medals will be presented on presentation day on the 3rd of December.

Trevor Bell Memorial Shield

Trevor Bell Memorial Shield at Port Kembla

It was a beautiful sunny day at Port Kembla for the last round of the Trevor Bell for 2017. Even though the Port Kembla boys went in as strong favourites with a 30 point lead and playing on their home track, there was still a bit of jostling happening further back in the pack. Their lead was always going to be difficult to overhaul and the Port Kembla boys managed to hold their nerve to win the day with 219 points and retake the shield back from Kiama.

However, it wasn’t all one way traffic for Port with Jamberoo putting in a very strong finish to tie with Port Kembla also with 219 points. The strong finish from Jamberoo saw us overtake Kiama and jump into second place overall on the scoreboard. The Links also came home strongly to finish 3rd on the day with 203 points, followed by The Grange (197 points), Wollongong (190 points), Kiama (188 points) and Russell Vale (176 points).

It was very pleasing to see John Ebrill (the previous Secretary/Treasurer of the IVGA) in attendance to do the presentation of the shield to the winning captain, John Dawson from Port Kembla. Many thanks to Port Kembla Golf Club for hosting the final event this year and particularly to John Dawson, Rod Robson and Ross Edwards for their organisation to ensure the day went off without a hitch.

The final scoreboard was:

Port Kembla 1394 points
Jamberoo 1348
Kiama 1333
Shell Links 1330
Wollongong 1295
The Grange 1240
Russell Vale 1215

I would like to congratulate all Jamberoo players throughout the year who helped us achieve a strong finish to the year. The first round of the Trevor Bell for next year will be at Port Kembla on Monday 9th April 2018. Best wishes to all for the upcoming festive season.
